An update of the AVCodec plugin for Hollywood 5: Infinity has just been released. This update fixes some problems with WMV video files. A new feature is that the plugin now establishes a gateway to Hollywood's sound stream interface so that Hollywood can now play audio files supported by the FFMPEG codec collection as well, for example M4A/AAC (used by iTunes). This is especially useful on systems like AROS and Linux because Hollywood doesn't support MP3 playback on these platforms by default.

You can download the plugin from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood 5.0's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3 (Classic), AmigaOS3 (FPU), AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel) and Windows are provided.

Philippe Rimauro aka OffseT released a new version of ACE, a CPC old generation emulator (no Plus support). It try to emulate the PSG of the CPC perfectly. The emulator was also written from scratch, so it isn’t just a port of an existing open source CPC emulator. Don’t hesitate and download it from the ACE homepage:

Once there were two computer clubs. The APC and the TCP. 20 years back (if anyone knows the exact date, please report), these two computer clubs joined together. Within a very short period of time, APC & TCP computer club, with nearly 500 members, grew up to one of the biggest Amiga clubs in Germany. APC&TCP then brought out one of the most common Amiga floppy magazines. The Amiga Fire and the follower Nocover. Since many programmers were a member, it was easy to distribute own software. To this end, in May 1992, the APC&TCP-distribution founded a trade partnership (Gbr.).

DigiRoller is a standalone replayer for DigiBooster Pro 2.x and DigiBooster 3 music modules. Version 1.1 contains the latest replayer engine featuring AHI-independent DSP echo effect. It is backward compatible with old echo ("V", "W", "X", "Y" and "Z" commands are fully supported), but the effect is processed inside the engine, so it is always active. Echo in AHI may be safely turned off. Additional feature of the new echo (which will be used in DigiBooster 3) is a new echo mode (command "V2"), where each track can have independent echo parameters. Another new feature is phase assisted stereo panoraming. Positioning instruments with not only amplitude, but also small phase shifts improves the music experience.

DigiRoller 1.1 includes other improvements in the replayer as well: working sample offsets (commands "9" and "E7") and fixes to "B" and "D" commands. DigiRoller is a free program and may be downloaded from the DigiBooster site http://www.digiboosterpro.de .

Airsoft Softwair has just released a very special Easter egg for all Hollywood users: A Hollywood plugin for videos created with Gold Disk's famous MovieSetter tool. Movie Setter is renowned in the Amiga community because it is the tool which Eric W. Schwartz used to create his legendary clips like the Aerotoons, Flip the Frog and Clarisse Cat, Sabrina, the intro of Team17's Superfrog, the very funny Anti Lemmin' Demo, and of course the Juggette clips.

The CoolCow program is a small utility for those interested in distributed.net contests of number crunching. While the distributed.net client runs in the background, it still fully loads the CPU. This stresses a cooling system, which is especially hearable in Macs mini or PowerBooks. CoolCow reduces processor heating (at a cost of lowered client throughput) by periodically switching dnetc client off and on. The duty cycle is adjustable via small GUI. CoolCow is released with source code on BSD license and is available for download in our download section.

A new plugin for Hollywood has been released today: The XML Parser plugin allows Hollywood scripts to parse XML files easily and efficiently. This finally allows Hollywood users to make use of this extremely flexible universal markup language that can be used for so many purposes. The plugin needs to be installed into LIBS:Hollywood but the included installer will take care of that automatically. Once the plugin has been installed successfully, a new user library should show up in the plugin.api tab in the Hollywood GUI. This plugin is based on libexpat and luaexpat.

You can download the plugin from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood 5.0's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3 (Classic), AmigaOS3 (FPU), AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel) and Windows are provided.

SpotUp writes. "There has been a fair amount of talk recently about unity and co-operation between all of the Amiga camps (OS3, OS4, AROS and MorphOS). Many of us are tired of the divisions that cause many arguments and slow down progess. What we'd like to see is more co-operation between developers and users, just like we had in the good old days...

No naughty Windows, Mac or Linux skills required, your time will be spent 100% working on coding what you love, AmigaOS 4.x & MorphOS!

Amigan Software are proud to announce that the CodeWar simulator, already available for Linux and Windows, has been ported to AmigaOS 3 and MorphOS. An AmigaOS 4 version is imminent.

CodeWar is essentially a simulation engine which allows multiple processes to execute simultaneously within the same virtual environment. This in turn provides programmers with the facilities to compete against one another by seeing who can write the program which exists the longest within this environment. Unlike other simulators such as CRobots, the competing robots are real native programs and may thus be written in any language.

Less formally, CodeWar allows programmers to create programs (robots) which can compete against one another using a variety of armaments (cannons, missiles, etc.) by executing them at the same time and communicating with the CodeWar simulator. Robots have the ability to detect these other robots and make up their own strategies to outsmart other programmers' code.

Additionally, Worm Wars 8.73 and Saga 1.81 have been released. These feature improved MorphOS compatibility, among other enhancements.

After two years of development, Airsoft Softwair is proud to annouce the immediate availability of Hollywood 5: Infinity for AmigaOS and compatibles and Microsoft Windows. This is a massive update which boasts over 120 new functions in comparison to Hollywood 4.8 and brings along many new features and general improvements. Highlights include the ability to play video streams, full Internet and network support (you could even run a server with Hollywood now!), support for real vector graphics and vector image formats like SVG, hardware accelerated double-buffering, inbuilt synthesizer functions and much much more.

Hollywood 5: Infinity is undoubtedly the most advanced Amiga multimedia application and on Windows it is a fresh Indie alternative to bloated authoring systems that need tons of DLLs, memory, and hard-drive space. Hollywood is highly stable, extremely easy to use and flexible, and used by many creative people around the globe. A totally unique feature is the ability to cross-compile native executables for many different platforms including: AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, WarpOS, MorphOS, AROS (x86), Windows (x86 & PPC), and Linux (x86 & PPC).

Today, the MorphOS Files repository, also available as MorphZone downloads section, reached 500 archives stored – over a gigabyte of MorphOS software. During its almost 3 years history it served over 93 thousands downloads with total traffic of 350 GB. Now it is not only used directly, but also serves as one of Grunch sources. It is also worth noting, a complete mirror of MorphOS Files is available at files.morphos.pl in case of any problems.

Quote: "I've just made a new release. Just a small maintenance one, but it adds a lowlevel.library joy plugin, which hopefully works on MOS as well."

This release fixes link mode emulation on 68k and x86 and adds a new lowlevel.library joy plugin, which should enable some kind of pad support for all ports.

Guillaume 'Yomgui' Roguez offers Cube 2: Sauerbraten port on MorphOS.

To play, you will need the libraries PowerSDL 13+ as well as data from the original game available on the official website.

To start the game in a window on the desktop Ambient, launch options are "-t-w640-H480" (for a window of 640x480 pixels).
To start the game in full screen mode, simply remove the "-t".

Note that the server version has not been tested, the client version is a little buggy and the RPG version is more stable but has not been fully tested.
