New update for Reggae multimedia framework is now available. The key features of this update are two new classes. The first, clipboard.stream provides read access to the system clipboard for the rest of Reggae, media files can be now automatically decoded from clips. The second class, gapless.filter, is a base building block for audio players featuring gapless playback. The first, very simple, shell based player using this feature will be released this week. Three other classes, file.output, audio.output, and the base multimedia.class have been also updated with improvements and bugfixes. Users speaking Swedish or Turkish will also get some locale files. All new features are documented in updated compiler headers and sutodocs, so developers won't be disappointed. The package can be automatically installed with Grunch, or downloaded from the download section and installed with included Installer script. In both cases the MorphOS SDK is updated automatically if detected.

Airsoft Softwair has just released a new plugin for Hollywood 5 - Infinity. This plugin enables all Hollywood scripts to load and save images in the JPEG2000 format. JPEG2000 is the successor to the popular JPEG format and offers multiple advantages over its predecessor including lossless compression and the possibility to store images with alpha channels. Additionally, when a JPEG2000 plugin is available and you compile executables for Mac OS X, Hollywood will be able to create Mac OS X icons in the resolutions 256x256 and 512x512 as well because these images are encoded using JPEG2000 bitstreams.

You can download the plugin from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood 5's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3 (Classic), AmigaOS3 (FPU), AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel), Windows and Google's Android platform are provided.

The CygnusED webpage is online via a new URL - http://www.cygnused.de. CygnusED is currently produced by Olaf Barthel and is one of the most popular text editors for the Amiga. Albeit slowly, the development of the program is still continuing. We'd like to get your opinion and thoughts as to what features you'd wish for future versions of CygnusEd. Please let us know your ideas by writing to us in the support forum of CygnusEd's new webpages so that we can consider supporting them for the program's future releases.

Just in time for New Year there's another major update to our Amiga Software Database (ASD) at Amiga Future. In the last few weeks we've added and edited several hundred entries, and nearly 1000 new scans. Almost 5000 scanned images of original software/application packaging, manuals, etc. are now included in more than 3700 entries of the database. The next steps will include further additions of CD-ROMs, and (Cover-) Discs and Magazines, an estimated 2000 entries more will be available. Enjoy viewing the largest database of application software and literature related to the Amiga! By the way, issue 100 of the Amiga Future magazine is now available. It's ready and waiting for you to buy it at selected Amiga dealers or directly from our online shop.

eGame now works fully on MorphOS! eGame allows you to keep an easily searchable list of games for playing – rather than having to hunt through lots of folders using Workbench/Wanderer/Ambient. Please note that eGame is only able to start games that you can already run by double-clicking them.

Yet another image manipulation program written in Hollywood? At the first glance A.H.I.W. by MorgueSoft is exactly this. Its hand-drawn GUI, non system friendly localization and set of basic options are typical for this class of software. There are two exceptions however. The first one is extensive documentation in PDF format. The second are a few interesting filters, not to be found in competing software. Examples are "old photo" filter, which is much more than just ordinary sepia, and conversion to binary black and white image with Floyd-Steinberg dithering. The program may be downloaded from the download section.

Since today there is an update available, so Roadshow can also be used on MorphOS. Roadshow is much faster than the internal TCP/IP stack of MorphOS 3.1. Please note, that with MorphOS a manual installation of roadshow is required. The supplied installation script will not run under MorphOS. The user should therefore be familiar with the operating system. The manually installed Roadshow is now directly usable and requires no further intervention to boot. New sample files for the network usage on the Pegasos / Pegasos II, and for Apple hardware are also included. The update can be downloaded for free on the support page of Roadshow.

Szilárd Biró has ported Daniel's Remar platform game RetroBattle. It is a classic platformer done in oldschool NES style, so it features schematic graphics, small sprites, low number of colors and basic animation. Fortunately playability is not lost, however the game is not very easy, especially as it is played with keyboard. The game can be downloaded from our download section.

Smilla is an application which might prove usefull for people who are in a need for highly upscaled version of a raster image. Used algorithm was developed by Mischa Lusteck. It is most effective for high scaling factors and for line-art/painted images. In current shape it is enough for my personal needs but if i get enough feedback more features might be implemented. Application can be downloaded at: http://kiero.binaryriot.org/SmillaEnlarger.lha

This is it! Airsoft Softwair has saved their greatest firework for New Year's Day! MUI Royale is a plugin for Hollywood that finally allows you to easily create MUI GUIs with Hollywood. MUI Royale supports over 40 MUI classes including popular third-party classes like TextEditor.mcc and TheBar.mcc. Creating and managing menustrips is also fully supported. The plugin sets new standards concerning the ease of use because the GUI layout can be conveniently defined using an XML file that is converted into a MUI GUI by MUI Royale on the fly. GUI design has never been so easy! Of course, new features of MUI 3.9 (AmigaOS 4) and MUI 4.0 (MorphOS) are also supported.

Harry "Piru" Sintonen provided information regarding the status of the MorphOS port for Apple's PowerMac G5:

Everything is progressing nicely. Bigfoot also did some preliminary benchmarking using the same LAME (13 seconds) and MPlayer (49 seconds) benchmarks as used here. (This is with the 2.0 GHz G5.)
