Airsoft Softwair - the hardest work men in code business - are proud to present a brand-new plugin for Hollywood: The HTTP Streamer. This plugin allows Hollywood scripts to open files stored on HTTP servers as if they were local files. Furthermore, the plugin also supports streaming of audio and video files via HTTP if the AVCodec plugin is installed. This finally makes it possible to do video and audio streaming with Hollywood which opens up a whole new range of possibilities for developers! Once this plugin has been activated, all Hollywood functions that deal with files will "automagically" be able to open files from HTTP sources as if they were stored on a local drive. It just doesn't get any more convenient!

The HTTP Streamer uses a sophisticated multi-threaded design for highly efficient HTTP streaming. Each HTTP connection is managed by a dedicated thread for optimal performance. This means that even when dealing with slower connections, Hollywood itself will never become sluggish or anything as all HTTP I/O runs on dedicated threads.

The HTTP Streamer is the second plugin to bear the Powered by Hollywood 6.0 seal of quality as it utilizes the new file adapter plugin interface and the streaming APIs introduced with Hollywood 6.0. The plugin will not work with older versions of Hollywood. That's why we here at Airsoft Softwair say: Life starts at 6.0. The HTTP Streamer is available free of charge and can be downloaded from the official Hollywood portal Versions for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS (i386), Windows, Mac OS X (PowerPC and i386), Linux (PowerPC, i386, ARM) and Android are provided.

Please note that video and audio streaming requires at least version 1.3 of the AVCodec plugin.

This release was brought to you by Airsoft Softwair - the hardest working men in code business.

Update: The project has been successfully funded.

This project aims to add a virtual "Trashcan" to the Ambient desktop environment that behaves similarly to the well-known recycle bin in Windows or trashcan in MacOS.

The specific goals are as follows:

  1. Add Trash functionality alongside Delete to Ambient's menus, etc (or make delete take an optional parameter controlling what happens with the file)
  2. The same functionality would be exposed to applications via the wblib
  3. The Trashcan functionality would create a .trash (or so) directory on each volume when moving files to trash. That means any (writable and local) volume would support the trashcan functionality, no matter what filesystem the volume is formatted with. No files would ever be copied between volumes.
  4. All trashed files would be viewable in a single place, in a virtual Trashcan folder showing trashed files from all mounted volumes.
  5. Files could be automatically restored to their original locations.

Point 1 implies this will be entirely optional and likely disabled by default.

License: GNU General Public License (GPL)

MUI Royale 1.3 releasedAirsoft Softwair is proud to present the immediate availability of MUI Royale 1.3. This update contains bug fixes and supports more MUI 4.0 features. Please note that MUI 4.0 is now also available for AmigaOS 3, so there is no reason to keep on using the old MUI 3.8 from 1997. Starting with MUI Royale 1.3, the *.hwc and *.hwp files have been merged so that MUI Royale is just a single binary now. Furthermore, users of Hollywood 6.0 will be happy to see that the installer makes all MUI Royale examples available in the Hollywood GUI now automatically.

MUI Royale requires at least Hollywood 5.2 and is provided free of charge for all users of Hollywood. It is available for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PPC), MorphOS (PPC), and AROS (i386). The package comes with over 20 example scripts, many of which are direct ports from the MUI 3.8 SDK by Stefan Stuntz, but there are also original developments like demonstrations of how to create a video player using the combined power of Hollywood and MUI. On top of that MUI Royale comes with extensive documentation in over 300 PDF pages which are also available in the HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM formats thanks to the Hollywood documentation system.
