R300 3D Graphics Driver Development Has Been Fast-TrackedThanks to an unusual and generous financial contribution from William "Fraggle" Morris, Mark "bigfoot" Olsen has announced plans to fast-track the development of a 3D graphics driver for AMD/ATI's R300 chipset which is built into various Powerbook models and available on user-replaceable extension cards.

Mark confirmed to MorphZone exlusively: "I am happy to announce that Fraggle has made good on his offer and is sponsoring the R300 3D driver development with the generous sum of 2000 euro."

The MorphZone Team would like to thank all involved parties for their participation and hopes for a speedy release of the new drivers so all MorphOS users with compatible hardware can benefit from them.

Zormanita is an audio format converter. It has been written as a result of MorphOS media saving API bounty. Currently it can load AIFF, WAVE (several flavours), 8SVX, 16SV, and MPEG Audio files, they can be saved as AIFF, WAVE or raw data. Because Zormanita uses new Reggae features, it will support any audio codecs added to Reggae in the future. All the program (including codec selection and its parameters) is controlled with GUI. Source code is included to the archive, which can be downloaded from the download zone.

U1Synth is one of results of MorphOS.pl Reggae media saving API bounty. The program is an example of using new Reggae capabilities, writing Reggae custom classes and general MUI programming. Source code of the program is released on BSD license. In the current version of U1Synth the synthesis engine is very simple: a fixed sine wave generator with adjustable ADSR envelope. It may be made more advanced in the future. The archive of the program contains also a set of new and updated Reggae classes, which are installed by installation script.

MorphOS just got a little bit of coverage on the site thanks to Sebastian Patting's article which sheds a little light at the history of MorphOS and explains why it can be of interest to people still using their old PowerPC machines.

An update of the AVCodec plugin for Hollywood 5: Infinity has just been released. This update fixes some problems with WMV video files. A new feature is that the plugin now establishes a gateway to Hollywood's sound stream interface so that Hollywood can now play audio files supported by the FFMPEG codec collection as well, for example M4A/AAC (used by iTunes). This is especially useful on systems like AROS and Linux because Hollywood doesn't support MP3 playback on these platforms by default.

You can download the plugin from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood 5.0's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3 (Classic), AmigaOS3 (FPU), AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel) and Windows are provided.
