MorphOS : : R300 3D Graphics Driver Development Has Been Fast-Tracked
Posted By: ASiegel. on 2012/9/13 21:47:40
r300Thanks to an unusual and generous financial contribution from William "Fraggle" Morris, Mark "bigfoot" Olsen has announced plans to fast-track the development of a 3D graphics driver for AMD/ATI's R300 chipset which is built into various Powerbook models and available on user-replaceable extension cards.

Mark confirmed to MorphZone exlusively: "I am happy to announce that Fraggle has made good on his offer and is sponsoring the R300 3D driver development with the generous sum of 2000 euro."

The MorphZone Team would like to thank all involved parties for their participation and hopes for a speedy release of the new drivers so all MorphOS users with compatible hardware can benefit from them.

...especially my girlfriend as she was the one who wanted `a lappie a bit different from everyone else`s`.

Well what else, could I do, I said `oh, I`ll see what I can do` [to the tune of `Common People` by Jarvis Cocker].

Anyway, I`m happy that you`re all happy and I`m happy to help - especially if I can finally beat Bigfoot at QW using all those R300 FPS. I doubt it though because he`ll have them too lol!

edit: plus he`s about a million times better than me and would probably pwn my ass at 1FPS anyway :-(

set a company and do an IPO selling shares to the community! (I'm serious).
Kickstarter can also be an option: Set a nice goal with all community requests, size it, price it, create a nice video and ask for the money.

    Glad someone mentioned Bigfoot's accomplices.

Yes, Fraggle, I in particular owe you a debt considering my video card of choice.

Hey Frank! When do we get support for more then 128MB of VRAM?

    Jim, it's here since 3.0:

Enabled full 256MB on cards offering a 256MB aperture.

But probably only in relation to R200 cards?

It depends on the used graphics card. Just perform a PCI Scan.

If your 256MB radeon appears twice, it is not supported.

If it only appears once, then the chances are high that it works. Unfortunatly some card still report 128MB, like mine.

I'm curious about 256MB support on bPlan hardware. Does any bPlan hardware (Efika/Peg1/Peg2) support 256MB? or is it limited to 128MB? Any plans to support completely the cards that report two memory banks?

Yes, at least there are various positive reports regarding Pegasos II (running OS4, not that this would matter though) at least:

Sorry for German language links. I have seen positive reports on international forums as well but can't be arsed to track them down right now ;-)

    > Any plans to support completely the cards that report two memory banks?

Statement on that by geit from June 2012 (sorry for German again):

Shouldn't that be there since MorphOS 3.0?

Just bought me a Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB 256Bit card that already comes with an aftermarket heatsink and memory chip heatsinks for $22 shipped on ebay. Sure I could of waited for a 9800 XL 256MB card, but I will be just fine with this one. 8-)

    Bring on the drivers! 8-)

Frickin' insane, but less so than buying a X1000. (Sorry Dave.) ("I'm afraid I can't do that?")

Every person who ever used MorphOS and every person who ever might use it owes Fraggle a lot for this. Thanks Fraggle!

Good luck Bigfoot and team, we expect excellent work again.
