    Hi All,

I am new to the MorphOS world. Sorry if I come across as an annoying newbie. But, I have become very excited about amiga for the first time in a while since reading all about MorphOS 2.0. I am really interested in buying an Efika board and running 2.0 on it.

I cannot seem to find any discussion or announcements about actual status or any guestimated ETAs. Anyone got anything like that?

    Thanks!

    Dave

Why not? You can't include anything without prior author authorisation for instance.

Multiple selection of files causes the crash. Upload/download one file at a time and it'll work. It needs to be fixed though.

don't forget that downloading to partition bigger than 4GB also causes probs.

Why aren't you using an older version then? Works nicely here. Didn't even bother checking out the new version after reading about the problems some people were having with it.

Interesting thread... I'd like to say a big thankyou to jcmarcos and others in this thread who have been so persistent and tolerant. Whether you believe it or not, this information is kind of hard to find.

I can't help noticing this Linux attitude of throwing newbies in the deep end and expecting them all to swim. The fact that this isn't windows is already going to keep the completely helpless away so I don't think there's any need for additional barriers. There was a suggestion a few posts back that the MorphOS developers could use someone who understands their development process and can also communicate meaningfully to non-developers - I'm quite confident I can do that.
PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)

I hope you don't mind me popping up this old thread again; I prefer not to open new threads for existing subjects.

    MorphOS 2.0 has a release date. ;-)
No, really, what we have is BBRV's reply to a comment in their blog:

While you're at it, could you give a link to morphos-team.net verifying this information?

    @jcmarcos

It has been stated in the past that BBRV does not set the MorphOS release date. Only the Team does (and quite possibly only Laire and cyfm), so I would not necessarily take BBRV's estimate as gospel.
    A4000/060/PPC-200MHz, A4000T/060/PPC-233MHz, CD32, MicroA1, Pegasos 2 G4, AMD Phenom Quad Core 2.5GHz, MacMini 1.5GHz/64MB VRam...mwwmwahhh :)

Though you are correct in stating that BBRV does not set MOS release dates, they are parntered with Gerald and TK and they certainly speak with Ralph about MOS.... so probably these are where the dates come from not Bill making them up in his mind..

Secondly, if MOS team does not release the next version by Christmas MOS is doomed, if it isnt already due to lack of community support/communication.

I'm too lazy to search for the same things written last year
    and the year before ...

Sure , health-status kept me from doing things with my
computers and my pegasos the last year or so but I will be there when/if/whatever MorphOS is for sale or available for free ... or whatever ...

In a few days, I will publish a detailled report about Alchimie 7, an alternative computing show held in France.

In this report, you will see most of the latest news about MorphOS 2.0. So when I heard "there is no news about MorphOS", I only can encourage you to move to Amiga/MorphOS shows to meet MorphOS developers (here in France but there are also great shows in Poland, etc.).

What new in MOS 2.0 for the last 4 months ?

    - Working video previsualisation in Ambient.
    - You can zoom in an Ambient window in icon mode.
    - Archives and ISO are now transparently handled (you can navigate into archives/ISO like normal others Ambient windows.
    - The new Multiview is in MUI, with multi tabs, new features, plays video,...
    - A system log.
    - A nice HDConfig.
    - SFSDoctor inclued.
    - Diamonds, a mind game, is inclued.
    - A new paint program is currently in work.
    - Lots of nice effects for the GUI (fade in, fade out, transparence,...).
    - Etc.

In the show, we have seen a new Sputnik version, a 3D desktop function (nammed "Cube"), the latest Poseidon, etc.

And nice persons like Yomgui (Blender, Python), Corto (SongPlayer, PointRider), Fab1 (list is too long ;), Henes (the bug killer)...

Fab1 have again ported super-programs like X11 or MESS.

The MOS development have never stop !

Check the website in my signature in some days for the complet report with pictures.

Amazing stuff, Duff. I'm drooling at the new features you mention. By the way... Did you see a TCP/IP stack?

This is absolutely true. You are lucky to have an Amiga and MorphOS show near your home.

I've been looking at some photos, but found no report about it. Of course, I'll be eagerly waiting for yours!

Very, nery nice to hear, although it's supposed that we all knew that the MorphOS team was working hard. But it's very hard to stand this lack of communication. Even more so in this world of internet, where we are used to the opposite. Nowadays, every programmer has some kind of home page, "blog", whatever, which feeds its users with updates.

It's so sad that the MorphOS team hasn't got anyone in charge of communication.

Sounds interesting. Is it a feature of the newest Ambient or you have to install a third
    party software?

X11, nice port for sure but
WTF, you only may have some knowledge about your favourite OS in this cases?

1-You visit meetings on another countries

    2-You are some developer's friend

3-You have a magic cristal ball

It's known by all that a new version is in progress but let me
tell you that the impression most users have is that
MOS is suspended. This lack of speech, will not promote coders work really. But I understand this lack of information, it's an "amigachos" OS after all.

The TCP/IP stack has been shown several times at recent shows/demos already. It's rather an "old" feature...
