MorphOS 2.0 Status

    Hi All,

I am new to the MorphOS world. Sorry if I come across as an annoying newbie. But, I have become very excited about amiga for the first time in a while since reading all about MorphOS 2.0. I am really interested in buying an Efika board and running 2.0 on it.

I cannot seem to find any discussion or announcements about actual status or any guestimated ETAs. Anyone got anything like that?

    Thanks!

    Dave

There are however other new features. Multiview supports Unicode and can display both Unicode text files (UTF-8/16/32) and guides.

Understood, and updated my status list (to be posted when more information is available). About video playback, is this new multiview using Reggae, or the old datatypes system has been enhanced?

It does not use Reggae or datatypes but new MUI class which has video playback feature and can be also embedded into other MUI applications.

Wow! And where do those video playback abilities come from? A yet another entirely new codec system? MPlayer components reused?
I recall seeing Ambient actually showing icons for movie files which were real previews of the file contents. It was was pretty impressive, but I wouldn't have this function turned on myself.
Is it done with that new MUI video playback class? It's a pity you don't have enough time to finish it. Can we users help you in any way?

It comes from avcodec/format.library (which has been mentioned earlier).

Anyway, it's dead certain it won't make it into 2.0 now because I have absolutely no time free to complete the necessary updates before release, so I removed them from ISO-build yesterday.

    Sorry.

Does that mean you are busy finishing ARexx PPC?

Sad to hear that... I loved the video-preview idea :-(

Will it be availible in the future? Maybe with an update. MorphOS 2.1? :)

Its a nice function and I really would like to have this. If you have the time to complete it. Or an "use att own risk" version? ;-)

I hope that MorphOS sells well so you feel its worth working on with MorphOS.
We all wish you good luck!!!!

While it's always a bit sad when a feature is taken out (interimly I hope) of the release it is OTHOH great to see you're full steam on finishing the release.
Hope you do not release it on midsommar weekend. Some days before or after midsommar would be great*.

*Yes, users always find things to complain about ;-)

Yes, don't worry, it's not cancelled, just on hold until I get enough time off work/life to finish the rework/merge.

I fully expect it to be part of the next feature release of MorphOS...

    What formats/codecs does it support?

How about making that MUI class use/rely on Reggae?

Many :) CISC can probably answer to this question, I dont really know which formats are supported. But there are many.

It is probably better extend existing MUI classes to use Reggae. As a whole I dont find it very useful in MUI (not even datatypes). Direct support for PNG would probably be more useful.

Let's hope, that it is released because of the reached end of development and not just to keep the crypted date ..

I hope they manage to release *whatever* within the announced time frame, *period*!

MorphOS 2.0 must get out *now*, in whatever shape or form it is. If that means temporarily "removing" things that is still not sufficiently developed, then so be it.

An OS that is *alive* never really gets "finished", there is always room for improvements and advancements. There will always be a "wish list" of new features, there will always be new potential features, but it's *important* to step down the foot once in a while and proclaim "this is *good enough* for a new release". It has been *years* since that happened the last time!

I'm *sure* there will be a 2.1 version. Heck perhaps there will even be a 2.01 version before this fall, containing various small fixes and why not this video feature as well if they get it stable enough? :-)

MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

You would think that if its this close to release that there would be screenshots of what to expect, a nice webpage to look at, a heads up on where it would be available for purchase...a price... etc..

    If its for real..

    How does Efika + MOS2 run 68k apps vs a 060 A4k? (speed wise) what about same think except Efika + MOS2 vs Peg 1 600mhz ?

Would you? If the feature set isn't frozen yet? But you're right, it's probably a hoax. :)

It's nice to have some MOS-Devs around in this Thread answering questions and talking about features of MOS2.0
I hope this won't change with the release.

Thanks for responding here with real answers and not jokes :)

Yes, we dont need "feature creep" at this stage... I hope its about locked in and frozen. Though with Jaca saying Q2 ends next month i'm guessing it will be really on the cusp of q2/q3 for release!

Isnt it about the time you guys usually post Screenshots? I mean every other release there were dev posted shots right before release...

Practically every format/codec you'll ever need and then some (though there are still a few exceptions (but Google SoC helps remedy that for every year that goes by)), check the FFmpeg homepage for more info (you have to RTFS for a complete list though)...

There are dozens of screen shots of 2.0 out there, even videos.
Anyway, 1 month to go. Should I apply for a vaccation day @ work for July the 1st?
