Another year comes to its end and a new one will start.
Albeit 2022 in general will probably not hit the history books as the year the golden age came true (do I really need to name the topics - war, climate change, corona, we all are fed up with this!) it wasn't bad from a MorphOS POV. New OS releases, browser and email programs became better and better, a really useable Pagestream release finally came, 3D improvements and so on.
Thanks to all involved - it's always a pleasure to be part of this rather friendly and productive community.

Let's see what 2023 will bring.

My main expectation is that I may find a bit of time to do a little programming again since my private situation has settled a little bit - I'll see.

    What's your expecations and/or forecast for 2023?

Flooding (northern hemisphere), forest fires (southern hemisphere) in January and again in November, and another record-smashing year for temperatures. Most energetic hurricane on record to plough into Cuba in another record season.

The Russo-Ukraine war to last all year, costing another 100,000 Russian and Ukrainian lives while Russia still refuses to accept it lost the first day. US taxpayers shoulder another $60bn in aid.

In UK: intense pressure to call general election 1 year early because government unpopularity, January power outages and constant strikes bringing the country to a standstill. Renewed pressure for a Scottish independence referendum called for 2024 due to a suddenly growing separatist majority. Pressure for UK to rejoin EU customs union and single market "as a working theory" as its credit rating is downgraded to junk by Standard and Poors due to large borrowing sprees and lower than expected tax intake.

China to make ever larger violations of Taiwanese sovereign water and airspace, but are deterred from invasion due to fear of a US response. Hong Kong freedoms curtailed even harder.

Global chip shortage worsens, causing the price of cars to rise again and placing pressure on many electronics vendors. Many countries who have signed up to banning diesel/petrol cars are under pressure to renege.

Another good year then a bad year then a good year then a TERRIBLE year for crypto, resulting in cheap GPUs flooding the market. Crypto scammers move onto something even more annoying.

Tabor remains vapour for the nth year running.

Intel and AMD chips hit the SRAM scaling wall and laptop manufacturers seriously begin to look into following Apple's ARM lead.

Major structural changes to MorphOS such as new TCP/IP stack or multitasking scheduler, with the first being forced early by a major worldwide ipv6 adoption announcement in November.

Influenza outbreak in November with relatively high mortality but no returns to lockdown.

Recessions in UK, Italy and Spain.

Another 3.1.x to milk users so that Ben Hermans can stave off bankruptcy for another year.

Google become more aggressive pushing search engine and YouTube logins, necessitating weekly changes to Wayfarer.

Major OpenSSL bug causes large scandal.

Still nothing on TV and cinema ticket sales on terminal decline due to the number of unoriginal remakes and sequels.

Home streaming on the collapse: Netflix announces more job losses, Disney+ announce scaling down of their channel offerings.

    ---

Well, it'll be interesting to see how many of these were miles off. See you in 12 months :-)

Now that PageStream has more or less become stable, thanks to Frank Mariak's, Deron Kazmaier's efforts, along with Christoph Poelzl's help, it would be great to have fixed &/or removed the bugs that are still affecting its overall use, and have a few additional features that are not fully implemented made fully functional, i.e. alpha blending, PNGs correctly interpreted/saved in PDFs, Toolbox issues fixed, Transform menu option work 100% correctly. Text Block/Pasteboard interaction work OK. It would also be nice to see BME function correctly. SVG graphics files import/export capability, and their use in PDFs added to PageStream.

It would also be nice to have v3.18 of MorphOS released, with the iMac screen brightness control implemented.

For 'bigfoot' to successfully complete the work on TinyGL.

Thanks to all concerned with making MorphOS the best NG Amiga based system that there is. 8-D

    > Another 3.1.x to milk users

Let's see what has happened so far:

    09/2018: 3.1.4, charged
    07/2019: 3.1.4.1, free for 3.1.4 owners
    05/2021: 3.2, charged
    12/2021: 3.2.1, free for 3.2 owners

So I'd say that another 3.1.x is very unlikely to ever happen, free or not. What's likely to happen is 3.2.2 (free for 3.2 owners, so no milking) or 3.3 ("to milk users").

Doubtful they'll go to 3.3, as it means they'll only have one more revision left (3.5 already taken). It's still 3.1.x regardless of what they want to call it.

If read this, Pedro Sanchez and his bang they call you a fascist, you can't say this that in Spain we have politicians that living in neverland with Peter Panchez, with Captain Feijook wants the easy chair to do it just as bad.

"Still nothing on TV and cinema ticket sales on terminal decline due to the number of unoriginal remakes and sequels."
And what is the Spanish public accustomed to the shit that Hollywood shits going to see?
with movies from Steven Seagal, the man that make movies with the same script thirty years ago.
Or the spanish TV channels put the same Hollywood movie all months and several channels.

Well, after of this jokes, the next year we will the typical new version of MorphOS and new ports.

Yes, let's see how the revision number convergence to already assigned 3.5 will be handled.

    > It's still 3.1.x regardless of what they want to call it.

In light of what changed from 3.0 to 3.1, I think "3.2" is justified for what was released as such.
And of course, version.revision is what "they" call it, regardless of what anybody else believes it should be.

At the end of December 2023 I would like to say that:
    1. MorphOS still is developed (especialy: TinyGL, SMBv2, Wayfarer, Iris).
    2. I finished making my game for MorphOS (created for last 4 years).

If both expectations are done, I will be very happy.
Of course all other positive surprises will be very very nice to have. :)
