MorphOS : : Public Release of MorphOS 3.13
Posted By: ASiegel. on 2020/2/7 19:14:42

MorphOS 3.13

The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.13. This new version offers more sophisticated text rendering including new font hinting and anti-aliasing modes to choose from. These include subpixel anti-aliasing for sharper and more detailed text on most LCD displays for any applications that allow text output via TTEngine. For those interested in testing this new feature, go to the Fonts section of System Preferences, enable "LCD" anti-aliasing, save your changes and then reboot. Next, run our integrated development environment Flow Studio, go to Editor Settings and switch on TTEngine mode.

In addition to general stability, performance, and security improvements, MorphOS 3.13 also brings important bug fixes for Pegasos I, Pegasos II, and Sam 460 systems as well as a driver for the on-board Gigabit ethernet controller found on A-EON P50x0 mainboards. For owners of Apple PowerMac7.x computers, there is a new shell tool for controlling the fan speed along with inspecting fan status and system sensor temperatures on these systems.

Existing users who have kept the built-in 'Default' choice for window skins will notice an altered appearance after upgrading. Anybody who prefers the previous look is advised to switch from "Default" to "Ferox" in the Screens section of System Preferences. Likewise, if your window skin was changed and you would like the rest of the user interface to look similar, please open MUI Preferences, click on the Settings button and choose the "Origo" theme. Please note that this step may overwrite personalized settings unless you choose to save them as a custom theme beforehand.

We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.13 is available for download in our files section.

I have always loved the detailed release notes from MOS team. Sony gets me annoyed as fuck with PS4's updates always stating "improved system performance".

Hopefully my long standing Radeon driver bug is fixed. I always need to revert to the driver from 3.7 to be able to use the system.

There is something definetely weird on the spacing of the fonts on several places of my screen. For example on CLI and on 2nd row of the volume gauge. Anyone else noticed it? Here's a grab. Basically, it seems to me that different fonts are being used in defferent systm areas (i.e. "icons" word on ambient drawer, compared to drawer path fonts which looks the same as previously, or different fonts between cli and info text of "About" ).

@jpv haven't forgotten you mate, gimme a little more time to sort out the files of swos pls :)

Thanks for 3.13 - very welcome, good job!
    Updating went smooth as always.

The blanker "pictures" is failing. It shows the first picture, then loads the 2nd and goes right afer showing the pic blank (black).

The original issue got resolved in 3.13, but now the picture name is displayed only for the very first file, but not for the next ones (no text at all).

    @Cool_amigaN

The CLI window uses a different font, which is monospace and is very much supposed to use different margins / padding so each character has the exact same width. So, the text in the about window looking different is perfectly normal.

If you do encounter inconsistencies, which I could not based on your screenshot, you might want to check whether you are using the System fonts everywhere or whether you have set up custom font settings (sizes or types) for MUI, for instance.

Same here, the CLI fonts are strangely spaced. Not the first row in my system but in other places.

BTW, on Odyssey, the Deepl.com website is now re-working :)

I updated MorphOS on my PowerBookG4 without any problems. Everything works very good. I didn't notice new skin because I have already set this skin in my MorphOS some time ago. :)

Indeed the font went to bitstream mono, but I didn't alter it myself. Also, Iris stopped displaying Greek fonts on gmail folders (latest beta, was working well). Anyway, idk if the above are even worth mentioned, think I can revert the changes, just was somewhat amazed by the rare occurrence :P

You need to configure a font that does have Greek characters in it in MUI Settings / List for Iris.

I don't like to use the PB touchpad but it hangs after a while, no input at all, thought I had a system freeze (but saw the clock still ticking) starts working again after connecting a usb mouse.
EDIT: Fixed by registering 3.13 with my morphos.key so this only happened in demo mode.

Don't see it in the notes, but did the DVORAK keyboard get fixed?

Unfortunately no. You can, however, try to modify and compile it yourself (https://morphos-team.net/files/src/3.13//keymaps.tar.bz2). Don't think anyone in the team uses Dvorak, so it'd be a bit hard for us to fix... Don't hesitate to drop by on #morphos to ask for help with this.

On - officially not supported - iMac G5 the inbuild speakers do not get deactivated when a 3.5mm jack got pluged in (worked before).

Did you test this with sound being off or playing? Afair switching only works when it's off.
