Software : : #amigazeux presents a screenbar smorgasbord
Posted By: Stevo. on 2018/11/27 17:57:24
After dragging MorphOS screaming and kicking into the current age of mobile technology by releasing Notch, #amigazeux brings you not one, not two, not three but, wait for it, four new screenbars, making the upcoming MorphOS 3.12 release close to irrelevant:

TopTasks: advanced top task display software

PixelPicker: no pixel is safe from having its secrets revealed

Mousecoords: location tracking for your mousepointer

DateTime: configurable replacement for MorphOS titlebar clock

Get them while they're still fresh!

    Nice! But few small things...

    - There's a line feed character at the end of the TopTasks text (toptasks.png)
    - Could height of the zoomed pixel in PixelPicker be adjusted? Here it's too tall and looks ugly when it draws over the border of the actual screenbar, as seen on the previous image
    - Would be nice if the default color of the texts would be taken as the screenbar's default text color so that it'd adjust automatically for dark background, now I have to go edit prefs of all these modules before doing anything else to see something
    - A configurable hotkey for PixelPicker would be nice, to get values copied to clipboard
    - Should TopTasks label image get scaled to height settings? Now it just cuts something out of the image (top/bottom borders with the default image) if you adjust top/bottom spacing...

For me, Downloading any of the utilities like TopTasks, PixelPicker, Mousecoords, &/or DateTime from the links are . . .

    . . . . . Forbidden: You don't have permission to access this page.

In fact, even trying to load http://amigazeux.org meets the same "brickwall"

    Why is that? :-?

Well, this just happens when something bogus is going on. Actually I could not find any request in the server logs around the time of your first post that could be considered legitimate... only hacking attempts and bots.

    So, according to you . . . . do I have a new career, as a hacker? :-? Be serious. :-P

Why would I (being a genuine registered MorphOS user), having an interest in your new screenbar modules that you have highlighted ..... need to try, or require to, hack your site to download the utilities you have mentioned, as they are supposed to be available to download from your website links above?

So, my suggestions is that you just get your website sorted out, or upload them to a downloadable link/website, or just keep them to yourself, as they are useless to everyone else it seems as to where/how they are currently sited.

The site runs on software that has protection from bots. All ToDi wanted to do was confirm your IP so he could work out why it seems to think your browser is a bot and blocks you.

As nobody else has reported any problem, I'm afraid your setup is looking to be the culprit, so if you refuse to help ToDi then you're on your own.

And... just a friendly word of advice: we could all do with less of the shitty attitude.

That's a good question . . . but I don't have a good answer to that, because today . . . . with no changes to my OWB/MorphOS system, or any infrastructure changes, which is basically how I have had it set up for 6 years with access to the internet the amigazeux.org is working OK, . . . . . even for me . . . . so go figure? :-?

I should add that, as far as I can remember, the amigazeux.org website is the only issue I have had of this type with my MorphOS setup, apart from sites with known limitations for our OS's browser.

In that case, plain speaking would have been a better approach rather than making a veiled accusation of me being a hacker or a bot host. Wait until someone makes that comment about you and see how you feel.

Additionally, I got the impression, from your comment "Quote:

KennyR "Oh and, OMG IT'S TODI"
that this uploader had caused issues that caused problems for others on previous occasions.
    Quote:

If that was a message intended for me, then WHY would I use OWB without a useragent (I take it you mean browser/OS identifier or when otherwise changed for compatibility to a site is known as spoofing), and in any case, is that possible with OWB anyway? :-?
    Quote:

KennyR And... just a friendly word of advice: we could all do with less of the shitty attitude

I don't think I made such a comment, it was just frustration at the response from todi, after I'd deleted the cookies for amigazeux.org, which hadn't made the slightest difference, and that such an issue had occurred where I was being inferred of being a "hacker" or "bot hoster" as I've never encountered such an issue with a http site before, . . .

. . . . and today amigazeux.org is accessible to me, with no changes to my system whatsoever, not even a switch off, so how it could be my setup that's the problem I don't know? :-?
    @ KennyR
Got any enlightenment to offer for these circumstances? As to how my system could be the issue, when it's not been switched off, and not been changed in any way, yet now it accesses amigazeux.org without the issues described above "Forbidden"]? :-? As how it could be my system that's the issue here in such circumstances has certainly got me baffled !

I guess creating an empty OWB_USER_AGENT environment variable will just do that.

    @ Andreas_Wolf

I should also ask . . . is "OWB_USER_AGENT" a valid environment variable that can be set/used with OWB?

As there seems to be virtually no mention of such a "user agent" feature, though spoofing is briefly mentioned, in the MorphOS Library. Not that I was intending to use such a variable, I just wondered if it is actually possible, that's all.

Yes, of course. I'm not the kind of person to invent environment variables ;-)

The readme has a list of env vars that includes OWB_USER_AGENT. Also googling it reveals some mentions, including on MorphZone.

OK thanks for that, and not that I was inferring that you'd just made up some convenient "env:" variable, but I hadn't seen it written down anywhere before, but having said that I'd not be intending to use it anyway as it seems more likely to cause issues you'd be trying to avoid in the first place. ;-)

Thanks for the quick update, and sorry for the slow feedback :)

That extra character issue is still there. I get the "LF" character with my current font (so I assume it's a line feed), but is a box or something else with other fonts. I think it's visible only with bitmap fonts.

I've also got few hangs when trying to change the font.. have to test more.

PixelPicker seems to be crashy too. I get a hit to ramdebug log every time I disable it, and it also hits if I select it on the screen bar settings, and then change to any other setting page.
