Hello every MorphOS user. It's my first time I started a topic and might be silly or naive. The plan is send a petition to Cloudflere. Example is

Subject: Stop blocking PowerPC / MorphOS users!

    To: support@cloudflare.com, press@cloudflare.com

    Hi Cloudflare Team,

I am writing to you using the Iris mail client on MorphOS (PowerPC G4 architecture).

Your automated Turnstile and JavaScript verification systems consistently block MorphOS users browsing the web via the Wayfarer browser. Your bot-detection scripts demand heavy JavaScript computations that take slightly longer on a classic Motorola/Freescale G4 processor. As a result, your security system false-positives our connections as malicious bot traffic.

    A few facts:

We are real humans accessing legitimate, everyday websites.

Architecture security: x86 and ARM malware or spam scripts cannot even execute on PowerPC systems. We are practically the safest users on the internet.

False positives: A delayed JS challenge response on legacy or non-x86 hardware does not equal a DDoS attack.

Please adjust your challenge timeouts and refine your finger-printing rules so users on alternative operating systems and architectures are not needlessly locked out of the web.

Fix your filters and let us browse in peace.

    Regards,

    Tomtom76/Your user name

    (MorphOS & PowerPC User)

What do you think about it? All of us maybe not that many but eventually might work.

I don't think they will care about your e-mail. Or they show you how much premium business support will cost.

I simply refuse to use CloudFlare'd websites that prohibit me from even accessing them without lowering my sword and shield (i.e. blocking cookies and JavaScript) and deem them as unworthy of being viewed anyway. Most of these websites have absolutely zero reason to partner with CloudFlare since they don't store private personal information. These aren't ecommerce websites, bank websites, university websites, or government websites, or what have you. These are relatively obscure websites, forums, and homepages or database sites (think a Wiki) that can be enjoyed without an account (although the creation of one is available, but even still, what of actual value would be at risk of being lost if the website got hacked?).

I have to do that with a couple of websites now. They have betrayed my trust and my privacy but prohibiting access from older machines or any machine whose web browser either doesn't even support JavaScript and modern SSL+TLS or has JavaScript disabled. I specifically selected these websites because they were "primitive", light on resources, had few or no scripts loaded, and were designed with desktop computing first in mind and not with smartphone-centric paradigms. The fact that so many more of these sites are partnering with CloudFlare presumably to combat the incessant bombardment of AI scrapers in the last 2 years alone kind of betrays the very concept that these websites are going for. Although, I consider that the concept was probably only achieved by accident and wasn't intentional on the part of site admins. Regardless, it worked out for me and my lowly PowerPC computers ... until CloudFlare took over...

Most Cloudflare protected websites actually work these days - unless they specifically configure "under attack mode" and increase their threat level. JIT actually solves the timing issues for most part and a LOT of work was put in 11.5 to improve correctness of both JavaScript, the network (cookies, redirects) layer and the DOM. What's left is for Cloudflare to accept a Wayfarer's unique fingerprint.

They will simply ignore it. Lowering security for millions of customers and enterprise clients for the sake of thousands of retro browser users is staggeringly unlikely.

Besides, the West (and USA in particular) is not currently in one of its cycles where consumers are being listened to (beyond boycotts or class actions, if things get extreme). It's in an enshittification cycle where short term profit is prime.

I have to even wonder what happens if Cloudflare decides it's not profitable to continue trying to pander to the UK's moronic Online Safety Act - we might get geoblocked from it anyway...

Unfortunately, MorphOS isn't evolving. Whether it's down to nostalgia or compatibility. Clinging to obsolete technology automatically leads to being left behind by the tech world.
We can't switch to 64-bit, otherwise we'll no longer be compatible with 32-bit software...Apple did it and hardly anyone complained...
Apple switched to Intel; at the time, it was a disaster, a sacrilege!
In reality, MorphOS should have done the same at the same time... Today, nobody would complain about it, just as with Apple.
In short, in this situation, we won't manage to keep MorphOS alive until 2035?

But a decade before they did this, they moved from being a shared memory address space OS to a modern, discrete task space OS. And a lot of people did complain, because MacOS9 was actually running alongside in its own virtualised layer inside MacOSX so you could run old apps. Which is a bit like running WinUAE on Windows 11 but having it always in the background eating CPU and RAM. (But in MacOS's case, somehow both a lot slower for no clear reason.)

While Apple have a small share of the browser market today, as a company they are one of the big players dictating how the internet works. And depending on era, are both responsible for good things and its corporate enshittification. Apple are the reason Webkit can still solve these challenges at all, even if they are slow on a 2000-era processor.

    ........

It is increasingly difficult to change the world these days... The captcha stuff is annoying, but understandable for the times.

As a new user of MorphOS (3.19), I did understand the scope of what the hardware/software capabilities would be. I suppose I was prepared to use VNC & NAS with a used up $50 i7 desktop running Mint to accomplish the modern 'net tasks. I even have the ability to flash PCIe cards with this ten year old box...

Install Samba and X11VNC on the linux box and be on your way. We need to work around changes in technology and the Morphos-team devs are doing an amazing job at it. Realistically, once it is set up, you don't have to get out of your seat on the MorphOS machine. I suppose this doesn't count as a "daily driver" but it is what I do daily...

    My $.02.

Yes, it's worth trying. Even if MorphOS has a small user base, coordinated bug reports and polite pressure can get niche compatibility issues noticed—especially if the community can demonstrate that Wayfarer is being falsely challenged or blocked. The idea isn't silly or naive at all; it just needs to be evidence-driven rather than accusation-driven.

This is a great initiative. You explained the technical issue perfectly, especially the part about the JavaScript challenge timeouts on G4 processors.Even though our user base is small, sending this could raise awareness at Cloudflare about alternative architectures.Count me in—I will copy the template and send the email to support. Thanks for setting this up!

What I got from Cloudflare support

Forget it. Cloudflare support system is totally broken. As paying customer for good few years I even couldn't reach any live chat, email or anything when i needed help recently.
All I could do is to fill the form from which responses were ignored in latter updates and case closed in another few days.
