Just a note for everyone to look at the news below. Genesi has upped the ante for the upgrade offer. Now, you have a choice, you can now elect to spend 100eur more and keep your original Pegasos I.

I use my Pegasos daily for my work
so I can't really mis it.

though this peg II upgrade does sound tempting
how long will I have to mis my peg before it's upgraded?

No idea, didn't they say anything about this when you mailed them?

If you choose to pay 300 Euro instead of 200, you will not have to send in your Pegasos 1 at all, as it seems. Then you can keep it forever or sell it yourself when/if you want to. :-)

    That's great.
I don't know how much time the exchange of the board will need and I don't want to be without a Peg for some weeks.

HERE is a tip from the d-link site on where to look for the MAC address using your router.

    Hi Guys,

I know the router would show the mac adress, but since genesis seems not be able to handle dhcp this won't work out. Also I don't know any linux live cd which works with peg 1 so this is no option.

    Any further suggestions?

The Debian pegasos1-installer (3.3MB) should be able to tell you.

Just download it, put it on your boot image partition and boot it from open firmware. Go through the language selections, once you've done that, it'll auto-configure the network. Now press alt-f2, then enter to activate the console, here type "ifconfig" and you can see the mac address (HWaddr for eth0).

I'm not sure what you are asking for:

    a) help configuring genesis TCP or

    b) acquiring the mac address of the peg1 to use as the serial number to upgrade to a peg2.

    Hi!
    Golem:
This was really a very good hint. Unfortunately ifconfig only returns the broadcast body ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
I tried to update the arp table but this also failed.

    Darth_X:
The goal is a. If a is reachable via b it would be really of interest for me.

But other ways are further on welcome.

    Hi!

    dholm:
    Thanks for your link.
Mupper didn't start. I guess I made a mistake while burning the ISO. I'll have another try.

    Hi!

A simple ifconfig in the MorphOS shell did it!
But I am not much happier than before. I have 2
Pegs to upgrade and both of them now have the
    same MAC adress...

do you have both peg1's set up in systems connected to your router?

No, the boards where ordered and delivered at the same time, but they are used in different locations and networks. Once we had a meeting with 5 or 6 pegs. When they where using the same network, we had several crashes (3 or 4 machines did crash at the same time). But this was more than a year ago and I forgot about it. Now I think I know why there where problems...

via rhine mac address is not a valid criterion for "peg1" identification
for your network trouble you can probably override the mac address value with miami

But for Genesi it seems to be an identification.
On the other hand the invoice for the board should be enough.

"workaround for via_rhine for machines with no MAC address"

    anyone?

We should have the Upgrade Order pages up in the next day and Pegasos I owners will have a week to get their orders in to PegasosPPC.com.

We will ship all orders the following week.
