There are subtle changes between the models and even production runs of the same model. We've had enough of the hardware to look into the 20" but not the 17".

Ran into really cheap same iMac G5 model and happy to report I am typing this from Wayfarer

So far very elegant and nice experience with MorphOS 3.15 and Crysalis, thanks to everyone involved.

Yes, support (unofficial) for the 17" A1144 would be useful. I can get good buys on these, and I'd like to avoid rebuilding the coolant system on my G5 quad for awhile.

Get some of those and send at least one to MorphOS team - then there might be a chance ...The only reason there is unofficial support for the 20" isight one is that I got hold of one quite some years ago and didn't want to keep it in the closet forever ...

But seriously, we have plenty of machines supported already. We really don't have plans to expand the range even further. While it looks like some machines are just a (down)scaled version of some other model, it doesn't always scale that well on the software side of things and needs considerable effort to add support.

I just got a 20 inch iSight imac g5 it works very well
I wanted to know if it was possible to connect the mini vga socket to an external monitor with an adapter
I have a pc monitor and I would like to use it on the mac not having the space
the mini vga connector works only with mac os x or also works with morphos by connecting it to a simple vga monitor / display port / hdmi with adapter +

Using it in the evening every reboot is a problem for people who sleep
I also have a macmini and I unplugged the speaker

There is no need to disconnect the speaker. Just open MorphOS Preferences/Sound and set the "Startup sound" volume to 0.

An adapter like this could work with Morphos?
For a matter of space I need to use the PC monitor
The issue will work on Morphos and above all the Mac monitor if I connect an external monitor will turn off?
Has anyone tried to do it?
    Let me know, thanks

That adapter came with the iMac when it was new, so it for sure should work.

I do have one on mine and use a 2nd monitor with it under MorphOS but I'm not 100% sure what you want.

You can define2 screens and have certain apps open on the 2nd one (like I do)

You can force Ambient onto the external display and leave the builtin unused (or use that as 2nd display)

There is AFAIK no way to make both screens show the same screen (mirror) with MorphOS

If you want to use it under OSX in anything but mirror mode you need to apply a firmware patch.

I want to use morphos on a monitor that I use for pc
the mac would go behind the pc monitor because i don't have space on the desk
if I connect a second monitor to the mini vga socket, the main monitor of the mac TURNS OFF? can you turn it off?

    I have a 20 inch isight imac g5
I don't have much space in my workstation the only solution would be to put it behind the LCD TV
If I connect the mini vga socket to my pc monitor that I use every day, would morphos work?
Could it work if I unplug the imac lcd monitor by unplugging the connectors?
Using the mini vga of course
In theory it should behave like a laptop
    Has anyone tried this?

If you really want to do something like this, it would likely be better to disconnect the internal panel and route the DVI signals out of the box - the internal plug is actually a proper DVI, which will go up to Full HD resolution easily.

(edit: to be precise, it's not a DVI plug, but the signals are the same)

So you say some cable-soldering fun would be needed then? Or is there an adapter somewhere?

I doubt you'll get any video on the VGA port.

    Yes and no.

The iMac is one of the few supported options for dual-monitor support so if he sets up Ambient to show up on the external screen before removing the buildin panel he should be good. Until that setting gets lost for one reason or another....

I continue with interesting discussion started ( a liitle offtopic ) here: iMac G5 overclocking

    Code:
    Little terminology corner:
CPU bus: = Processor Interconnect ( IBM terminology ) = Elastic Interface ( Apple schematics terminology ) = Processor interface bus ( Apple bussiness terminology )
    Northbridge: = U4 ( Apple bussiness ) = CP945 ( IBM ) = Kodiak ( Apple schematics )

Fortunatelly, I receive iMac iSight G5 ( A1145 ) and iMac G5 A1058 (which is very probably version overclocked in above links ) schematics.

I can confirm, that resistors responsible for CPU bus clock configuration 3:1 -> 2:1 are:
    iMac G5 1.8 GHz A1058: R3012 -> R3028, exactly like mentioned in above links
    iMac G5 iSight 2.1 GHz A1145: R4712 -> R4728

Accordind to Northbridge and CPU manuals, the CPU bus clock domain is independent from other clock domains, so CPU speed not change with change of CPU bus speed ( in opposite of G3+G4 overclocking, where CPU frequency derives from bus frequency).

So, all this is theory. In praxis there still can remain risk of damage, because of:
    - inappropriate version of real iMac iSight and schematics (not too big risk)
    - Northbridge in iMac can have lower "Speed Classification", i.e. maybe in real is not 1.05 GHz capable
    - insufficient cooling after bus overclocking
    - damage during mounting / dismounting / soldering
    - other things I didn't notice
