I have a MFC-L2700DN and it supports PCL.

I just use the standard LaserJet4 driver and it works out of the box.

Just added the ip to netprinter settings. The ip can be retrieved from the router.

@ Papiosaur- from what I see on the Brother website for this printer's specifications it only has the below capabilities (emulation):

    Emulation - (DCP-L2550DN/MFC-L2730DW/MFC-L2750DW), PCL6, BR-Script3, PDF Version 1.7

Which means I don't see PostScript capability, unless the BR-Script3 is a replacement for PostScript, though I doubt that, but it could mean a BRother printer specific version of PostScript3 that they have developed. If you can establish if it is PostScript capable then you would be able to use a PPD printer driver, but you had better make sure it is PostScript capable to ensure it will work, or you would probably have to use the TurboPrint (PS) or GhostScript (GS) capability with MorphOS. 8-D

@Geit: Thanks for your help, it's the "HP_LaserJet4" driver in "Printer" prefs?

@NewSense: if it work, i will say you ;-)
    I have found this : "PCL 4, 5, 6 and/or BR-Script Brother (PostScript language emulation)"

A driver to scan with Scandal will be welcome :-D

[EDIT] i have an error message: Impossible to connect to socket 192.168.1.36:9100
    Connection timed out.

I'm in DHCP, maybe i must be in IP static?
MorphOS and the printer are connected to an Ethernet hub.

    Any ideas please?
    Thanks for your help!

It indeed is. BR-Script is the name of Brother's own PostScript implementation and should be compatible with standard PostScript drivers. So it could be worth using MorphOS' new printing system with a compatible PPD file to make a BR-Script3-capable printer work with MorphOS. With a printer also compatible with PCL5, this could even work in case BR-Script isn't sufficiently compatible, namely using the new printing system's PCL5 driver.

    > or GhostScript (GS) capability

For printing PostScript data to a non-PostScript (but PCL-capable) printer via TurboPrint, using GhostScript is a hard requirement. TurboPrint creates the PS: device only in conjunction with GhostScript.

It makes absolute sense to give a static IP to your printer (defined in router or printer). I f you use netprinter.device (what i guess), it's only useable with static IP.

    Yes, you have right.

My printer has this IP: 192.168.1.36
My MorphOS has this IP: 192.168.1.10

It will be fine to have a tool to detect the printer in the network and download the corresponding PPD file :-D

No print for the moment... i have tried many solutions but don't work :-(

Found data of MFC-L2710DW - seems very close to yours:
These printers does'nt support Postcript nor PCL or anything else of normaly used emulations - this seems to be a GDI-Pinter. In that case you can forgit it for MorphOS!

Should be detailed in your user-manual.

The L2710DW uses also BR-Script, see printer driver.

Yes, according to the user manual (and also what's quoted in comment #6), of this printer family, only DCP-L2550DN, MFC-L2730DW and MFC-L2750DW support the quoted languages.

Note: "Not all features are available for all products"

And indeed, opening "Content" below the table lacks mention of BR-Script driver.

For my understanding BR-Script is a "subset" of PS - it does'nt provide all PS-features (but perhaps additionally other features, which PS does'nt have).

I tried also to print with a Brother in past, which has this "BR-Script" feature, but I don't had success. If it prints, it prints only raw-data or crab (MorphOS).

It seems that a seperate driver is needed - PS, as we know it form our Programs, won't work...... (or have to be post-processed to make it compatible - i don't know).

What I've seen: This printer supports direct pdf-printing. This may help for programms, which provides a pdf-safe support (like Pagestream, VPDF, etc.)

Yes, as with MorphOS 3.15+ ;-)
    brl2710.ppd could work with Papiosaur's MFC-L2710DN.

The Brother family of printers has always previously been an 'estranged' member of the Amiga printer family, but that is so cool that a new member of the printing family for the Amiga (girlfriend) now has a new Brother ! 8-D

Guess this is a GDI-Printer! (-> Language is PCLmS, UMF, PWG)
Don't think that there will be any luck, to get that working under MorphOS - or Zukow let's happen a miracle.

I just bought a new printer... after comparing specs of printers currently available to buy as new in my country, I decided to go to Xerox B230, which supports PCL 5 (and 6) and PostScript level 3.

I've now printed three pages and it seems to work just fine under MorphOS. PostScript printing with the new printing system (Printers) works, and also old programs with TurboPrint (Printer) do work, yay \o/

The third page was from my A1200, and it works from there too with an older TurboPrint. BTW. FinalWriter was soo slow on 060@60/Voodoo3 compared when running on MorphOS... on both writing and printing :) Brrr....

I guess printing should work with B225 and B235 multifunction printers too, as they share the same specs for printing, but no idea if scanning would work. And probably color versions C230 and C235 would work too... and maybe other Xerox models have kept the good compatibility, but I haven't checked their specs.

Just a question : The new print system does support ESC/PR as I read in the library section. Am I right assuming that this means it supports Epson printers which speak ESC/P or ESC/P2 too?
