    Doesn't sound likely.

Perhaps the number of registered MorphOS2.x users has now surpassed 400 to 450 then? Only way to know for sure would be if the MorphOS Development Team keeps a database of registered user names and every MorphOS2.x user registered with the same name on all their licenses, if they have more than one license. Just a wild guess on my part of course, but I think that there are many MorphOS2.x users that have 2 licenses and some (like me) have 3 or more licenses.

I had hoped that the number of registered MorphOS2.x computers would have risen faster after MorphOS2.6 was released with support for the G4 PowerMac, but many potential registered users are probably still evaluating the demo version of MorphOS2.6 before they decide to spend the money on a license. That and the fact that the economy is still not in great shape in most areas of the World, and it keeps people from spending money on non-essential items.

The MorphOS Team cannot keep track of private sales of machines including licenses. So for instance one single person being listed as owning 2 licenses could actually have sold one of them, resulting in not 1 but 2 users. Or the other way round: A MorphOS user sells his only MorphOS machine including license to someone who has already a licensed MorphOS machine, resulting in one user less.

We have the Independence Day in Poland today, which is a holiday of course, so I've been a bit bored and after gathering data from all the thread and playing with OOffice I've prepared this graph. Note that it is solely based on the thread data, there is no "team insider information", so it may be inaccurate.

Nice, thanks for that. Would have been even nicer with MorphOS software being used ;-)

Is the information used to populate your graph public knowledge, or is part of it confidential? I would like to have all the data used to make the graph, so I can make my own graph with more detailed time-line and use it at the next AmiWest Show.

If you have the data broken down by computer model, that would be interesting to look at as well, but I doubt that info has been kept anywhere. If I thought that we could get anywhere near 90% or greater participation from all of the MorphOS2.x users, I would suggest that the webmaster here put up a long running poll to capture statistics for number of users, number of registered computers they have and what those computer models are, but I doubt that we would get enough participation to make the stats useful in trying to see the big picture regarding MorphOS2.x users, where, with what and how many each, plus total users.

As for the ability of the MorphOS Team to know how many users there are, They can't know exactly, but I think that most people that buy a preregistered MorphOS computer write to the MorphOS Team to have the name changed and a new License Keyfile sent to them that shows their own name (but that is just an opinion of mine that is based on the few new users here that have written to ask how to get the registered name changed). I am sure that there is a small number of users that own and use MorphOS2.x computers that are registered in a previous owner's name and a very few MorphOS2.x users that have sold all of their MorphOS2.x registered computers so that they can no longer be considered a MorphOS2.x user, but I believe these numbers to be so small that they do not substantially effect the total number by more than 1% to 2% at most and probably even less than 1%.

Is this a new license for yourself, or was it perhaps the license number for the person that won the G4 PowerMac raffle at the AmiWest 2010 Show, who you paid the license fee for (thanks again for your donation of the license fee to this new MorphOS2.6 user)?

I think that both falsifying effects are much more significant, but as they are working in opposite directions they may be resulting in the low divergence you suspect ...or they may not ;-)

This is a license number for one of the Polish MorphOS users. It has been won as a first prize in a contest that took place on AmiParty X in Chelm, 13-14 Nov. this year (kindly sponsored by pampers).

I will contact Alan Swithenbank again to see if there is any reason for his delay in registering, other than his desire to procure a second hard drive to install MorphOS2.6 on to, without disturbing the existing MacOSX & MacOS9.2.2 installation. Alan also said that he was very busy at this time, when I last contacted him.

Congratulations to the winner of the contest and thanks to you again Pampers for donating another MorphOS2.x license as your way to give back to our community by attempting to create more new users.
