Thanks. So it was the latter. Whose machine will be #1000? :-)

well guys getting close to 1k. I'm sure with next release for PowerMac it will fly past 1k. After PowerBook release i'd say we could go almost 1500 at that time...

which makes me seriously wonder what's the real priority for MorphOS, keeping on making the OS evolve or attracting more users (which mostly means making registered users getting one more licence for their new apple machines).
I may sound bitter now, and i shouldn't really have a reason to feel disappointed aymore as i don't use morphos much at that time, but still, i love the OS, most of the people involved, and i'm sad to see that there is nothing new but bugfixing, minor improvements, and new (old) hardware supported (even if i measure the heavy work it means to get there). I'm also sad to see that despite the expanded hardware choice i don't see may new users posting here, i don't see the counter increasing significantly, but i see old morphos users getting their geeky hands on old powermacs in the neverending quest of making morphos runs a little bit faster, and i see the OS itself kinda stagnating (i'm not talking about OWB or other apps that do evolve and improve on a regular basis).
I hope the age of porting the OS to apple hardware is finishing soon and i hope to see the OS progressing again.

bit of sadness, it will fade : )

Cloud solution, the use of purple in the default desktop theme, and a music store feature built into AmiNetRadio. :)

I see progress in every release... great work Morphos Team! :)

it's always something and obviously you can't please everyone.

    About hardware:

First there are people that complain about no hardware, then it's complaining about the fact it isn't new hardware and somewhere in between it's complaining about it's not the wanted architecture.

    About software:

First there are the people that complain about no updates, then it's complaining about the cost and above on that it's again complaining about the architecture

I think we get alot of new users since the release of MorphOS 2.0.
If you for example look at registered users here on MorphZone there is 536 new registrations since the MorphOS 2.0 release.
And a new user often only read on forums, not register directly. MorphZone existed for about 4 years before I registered, and I been here from the beginning only reading.
So it's hard to say how many new users we have, but I get the feeling that userbase is increasing like never before.

Thanks MorphOS Team for the excellent work!

This thread is about number of licenses (i.e. registered machines), not number of users. The owner of the 1000th registered machine may be a new MorphOS user, or it may be a longtime MorphOS user. In any case it's for sure he's not the 1000th user.

Maybe "only" bugfixing, thats okay, but i think giving support for that pletora of hardware present on the PPCmac families is like climbing a big mountain using only a piolet (given the real world resources of the MorphOS Team)

Personally, i think what MorphOS team have achieved by now, having a complete OS, a nice kicking ass Abox, ongoing development... whit a shameful number of users... oh my god, yeah, i think its quite remarkable (even more in 2010)

Even, i dont give a danm for the "outside world". Im not in a hurry for quadcore cpus and cuda gpus. MorphOS flies on the current solutions and i will enjoy it until my teeth feel off :)

    well said:)
i have a core2duo/win7 system sitting next to me and yet i use morphos all the time only turning on the pc for doing tasks i cant with the peg (its not that much) and for gaming.
morphos is an incredible pleasure to use for an old amigan like me, and even liked and get respected by outsiders (my pals when they visit me).
not to mention the post on irc from a new user on the other day where he told us he found his wife before his pmac using morphos to surf the web, and the answer to the question "why morphos?" was that she can finish (or already do) the surfing with morphos until windows boots up:)
and the team, esp. the few key ppl who done the hard work, has been achieved incredible results with the support of these wide variety of pmac g4's!
we must thank to them and hope that they get more and more registrations and they work will be well rewarded.

I sold some stuff on Ebay to get some money on my paypal... so as soon as I come home from work I will register my Powermac with 2.6 and we can update the counter (and I can finally start playing with MorphOS 2.6 without rebooting every 30 minutes)

Brilliant for a marketing campaign! Only that is NOT marketing, it's a REAL testimony!

    I couldn't be happier ;-)

Payed yesterday evening and this morning when I woke up the keyfile was in my mailbox.

ANd it could be just my imagination, but the powermac feels more responsive and those butterflys in the screensaver seem to fly faster now that it is registered. Could it be that whatever is slowing down MorphOS after 30 minutes this already does from the beginning but less obvious ?

I think it's your imagination. At least from MorphOS Team's view it wouldn't make sense to slow down MorphOS in the first 30 minutes already. After all, this is the time when a potential customer decides whether to become a real customer or not.

Whatever makes MorphOS slow down after 30 minutes, does run from startup ( I think) ... so I beter mention it not ? Well if there is a difference, it sure is a small one... and it didn't hold me back.

Yes, probably. There's obviously a timer counting down from 1800 seconds to 0 (or reverse). But I somewhat doubt that such counting code is slowing down MorphOS in a (even barely) noticeable way. Maybe a MorphOS Team member can comment on that. Right now, I don't feel motivated enough to benchmark that ;-)
