mac mini was not an option for me back then due to the lack of expansion ability, as it was the only faster system than the peg2.

"niche operating system" sounds like an excuse to me, for the fact that nobody has started to write a printer system for morphos in all these years. actually, i think that it could be an excuse for all the stuff that morphos is lacking.

yeah, it is satisfying for your needs, but not mine.

can you explain that in detail what that means regarding flash?
amiga is dead for me, because it has no relevance anymore in the computer world.
i cant say that about flash and the internet.

Then what about the PowerMac G4 that was supported starting 1.5 years ago and can be upgraded to run at up to 2.0 GHz?

    > "niche operating system" sounds like an excuse to me

More like a hard cold fact. Buying a non-PS printer and then complaining that it's not supported under MorphOS is like putting an nVidia graphics card in a PowerMac G4 and complaining that MorphOS doesn't show up on the screen. As long as current peripherals can be used from within MorphOS (and yes, it does work with PS printers), I don't see a problem with informing oneself and only then choose a product.
What sounds like an excuse to me is someone quoting the non-support for his current (non-PS) printer as one reason for not using MorphOS when other current (PS) printers are supported ;-)

    > it is satisfying for your needs, but not mine.

Pity. We have different needs it seems.

    > can you explain that in detail what that means regarding flash?

Of course. It means that Flash will certainly still be "out there" in a decade from now, even if only a handful of people will be using it. There will be niche applications for a long time where Flash has its right to exist, no debate about that. But nobody can deny that Flash is more and more losing ground against HTML5.

    > amiga is dead for me, because it has no relevance anymore in the

My comment was not meant too seriously. Today, Flash is still strong, but I believe that in a not so distant future it will play a comparable role in the computer world that the "Amiga" is playing right now.

powermac was after i left morphos. but the lack of power is not the current issue, it was back then for me.

i cant agree with you on that. i know that there are supported printers out there. but besides the fact, that i would have to buy a new printer, i would also have to go without all the stuff that i named in previous posts, when i would decide to buy a morphos system. so the question for me is not what excuse i can find not to buy morphos, its more what reason is there for me to buy morphos? and there is a lot of stuff speaking against morphos.

this is pure speculation. i can't afford to justify the lack of flash support now just because of a personal estimation regarding the future. i remember those sayings from back then when i last used a morphos system, and honestly i think flash is still as present as back then.
in addition to it, its pretty unimportant to me what might be in 10 years. i just would like to have a system that fulfills my current needs. and flash is important for me now and for a lot of other users (especially when it comes to expanding the userbase)

i think these softwares arent recommendations, but more essencial requirements for an modern operating system.

and its not pity at all for me that people have different needs. i just think that those stuff is pretty important when you want to expand your system or at least get the old amiga users back.

I was only talking about the printer reason you mentioned at that point, not about the other things. That's why I wrote "one reason", not "the reason".

    >> It means that Flash will certainly still be "out there" in a decade from now,

Yes, of course. I'm just extrapolating from the developments of the last years. But as nothing that hasn't happened yet is for certain and I'm no prophet, it's pure speculation from my part. Maybe Flash will stop declining and will see another revival, who knows :-)

That certainly doesn't correspond with my own experience, quite to the contrary. But I guess that depends on which parts of the web you use to visit.

    > i think these softwares arent recommendations, but more essencial
    > requirements for an modern operating system.

I agree with you if that refers to printer support and office suite here, but certainly not if that means to include Flash support. Of course, that's just my humble opinion.

    >>> it is satisfying for your needs, but not mine.

    >> Pity. We have different needs it seems.

You've misunderstood me here. Look closer, I didn't say "pity that we have different needs" but that it was a pity that OWB is not satisfying your needs. That's a different thing.

I post this not because of creating a discussion Aros versus MorphOS but just to show the potential X86 has, and I think it would be similar for MorphOS.

There were 3000 downloads of Icaros and 300 downloads of AspireOS in less than one week:
    http://vmwaros.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/3000-times-thank-you.html

Of course that does not mean 3300 individuals and not everyone who downloads and test it will start to use it but I think it are impressive numbers for the amiga-community and show the potential outside PPC

Personally, I didn't find printer support to be a particular problem.
I probably have more spare hardware laying around then most people, so when I first downloaded MorphOS I found that I had three inkjet printers on hand that I could choose from.
I currently use a blueberry colored Epson StylusColour740i which works fine with the Epson StylusColour740 driver.
Should I set up a second MorphOS system, I've got two HP Deskjet models to choose from.

When I looked on Ebay, I found several supported models.

One buy I really liked was the HP Deskjet950C.

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=HP+Deskjet950C&_sacat=0&_odkw=HP+Deskjet970C&_osacat=0&_from=R40

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Deskjet-950C-Inkjet-Printer-W-Power-Cable-USED-/200725134934?pt=COMP_Printers&hash=item2ebc267e56

Under $40 (including shipping and handling). Cheap and pretty fast for an inkjet.

As to OWB, I find it perfectly suits almost everything I do. Yes flash support is sub par, but that isn't Fab fault. Flash, being proprietary, is hard to reverse engineer. And html5 makes a good substitute when supported by a site.
Also, you want to talk about support. I had an issue recently where I couldn't log into my e-mail account. I posted a question about it here and Fab asked me to set up a test account for him. He quickly got back to me and explained how to work around the issue.
That guy is amazing. What an asset to the community. Where else would you get that kind of help?

We do need a good word processor. At this point, while I know its alien, I'm beginning to think a good X11 implementation would be helpful.

Yeah, with the current rate we'll break out of the grid in less than 6 months, but I have a feeling (or at least hopes) that the MorphOS 3 release alone will cause the need of at least one extra horizontal level much *prior* to that (and then the "normal" growth will continue on top of that of course)... ;-)

Incredible how the trend continues, like it would be drawn with a ruler! :-D

Wonder if we will hit the 1,500 mark before the end of this week? I would hope so, this release is brilliant and will only get better with the next release, which will most likely be a quick update release, like 2.7 was after the 2.6 release.
