Maybe, but I still think that other than maybe another Pegasos/Efika/Classic upgrade, MorphOS3.0 for the MacMini will be the next platform supported unless they are working on a super secret alternative hardware that no one has heard about yet. I think that Neko's promise that there would be new hardware which potentially would be MorphOS compliant available before the port was completed for the MacMini might have fallen through as we have heard nothing since then from him or Genesi.

The advantage of waiting to buy a MacMini is not in that it might not be completed, rather that the price of G4 MacMinis will likely continue to drop and waiting will get you a better price later (except of course for the first month or two immediately after MOS3.0 is released).

I'm hoping there are a lot more people monitoring the situation and will buy a mac mini as soon as it's released or after they've heard what it is like from people (like our selves) that get MorphOS"3" right away.
As you say, I don't think the MorphOS team are in this for the money. By porting to the mac mini they give themselves a nice platform to expand their OS on without relying on a hardware manufacturer to provide it for them.

It may not be a grand incentive at the moment, but, buying a Mac Mini to collect dust on the hopes that MorphOS is ported and released for it is kinda odd. Although people do it. In the world of Amiga I will high 5 the idea of the new, but wait until it is a reality before getting all charged up.

Mine gets used regularly with an Elgato. What takes 8 hours to do on my wife's Intel core duo iMac is done in less than a third that time at the original and highest quality depending on the video in question, or faster. I also use mine for playing classic games, iTunes server and a back up incase my G5 iMac was to die.

MorphOS for Mac Mini seems quite a solid bet as it's been shown running and every so often there is a little bit of evidence to show that development is progressing. I think those like myself who have bought one already, know that there is always the slim chance that for some reason it won't be released but we'd rather be optimistic :-)
Let's face it the outlay isn't too bad, it's not like buying a YDL Powerstation and hoping for a port to that is it? :-)

Well announcements aren't enough for a lot of people these days. Which is understandable given all the let downs in the Amiga market in the past. (That's not to say the MorphOS team are culprits of this)

On some (most ?) PPC Mac, there is a builtin graphical boot menu to select the boot volume and OS. I think it shows up when you press some apple key combo after a reset.

Plus, if the Mac comes with OS X on it you can always run that and that is a nice non-Mindows OS that tends to cut into M$'s monopoly. A key question is whther the MorphOS release will conveniently set up a double-boot selector screen, or if it will only wipe out an OS X installation to make way for MorphOS.

Yeah OS X is quite fun to play with. A boot selector would be handy but personally I'm not that worried as I would boot OS X rarely once MorphOS was installed.
If you get really bored waiting for MorphOS for your mini you can always try out the Moana AOS4 stuff and write your own drivers for virtually everything like I'm doing (kidding).

    I think the opposite.
32 members buying a Mac mini + some others with laptop ppcs without knowing the release date nor the price of MorphOSmac seems to me a good number in our small community...
When a release date will be announcend the number surely will increase very fast.

    Hola :-)
    Just my 2 cents.

Just a few issues to make clear.

I hope MOS dev Team considers double boot Minis, I mean dual system when MorphOS appears, right? I am not that convinced to wipe my MacOS away just to have MorphOS. I mean... If I was forced to do so, I'd probably check my balance and maybe... something other would be a way out. I mean come on! What's the problem (if it is a problem)? I made a 10G partition especially for that, waiting!

Also, If MacMini as a platform is the target, I hope WiFi would work. I got wifi internet home and do not want to buy a hub especially for MOS.

Last one - as soon as it comes, maybe it is a good idea to advert this on http://www.apple.com/downloads/ site? It's a matter of making keywords pretty carefully. I think OS is a pretty productivity software... Another way - MorphOS for MacMini IS an Apple software :-)

Well I'm sure that dual booting will be possible one way or another.
The wifi I believe is a little more tricky. I don't think there is any documentation available for it although I'd rather be wrong about that.
It would be a very pleasant surprise if the wifi is supported with the first release. If it's not it's still going to be a lot cheaper to buy an extra hub/router than it is to buy a SAM440ep-flex like you've mentioned doing on other forums. And believe me as a SAM440ep owner MorphOS on Mac Mini is going to be sooo much faster than AOS4.1 on any current SAM.

I got mine for 240 us dollars its 2000 swedish krowns or 187 euro.
It was a god price, this mini had the superdrive (burn cd's and dvd's) and 1gb ram.
The first mini cost 304 dollars and only had the combodrive (only burn cd's) but it also had 1gb ram.
I will use the second mini to show friends and people at work what MorphOS is and i will lend the cute little bastard to potential new MorphOS users.

    Well there are several options.
    1. MorphOS custom boot making dual boot
    2. parallels desktop - they say linux or any other can do, why not morphos?
    3. Maybe bootcamp would work for Leopard

MorphOS team should account those two most recent and simply test them.

    There's more options, I'm sure.

Yeah, you're right. Stupid hub costs next to nothing. Also it is much better to see new MorphOS sooner that the WiFi version would expect to appear.

But as I said, Apple downloads is a great place to evangelize MOS for Mini. I think maybe there's a need for some sort of actions to market the OS. I mean each place possible, but sensible. Parallel desktop vendors? Sure, They're gonna be happy to introduce "the third OS" to be run on Mac with their very product. And so on.

Mac people are weird people, indeed. I am and many of my friends are. I think it is possible to make a critical mass so that Mac people know there's another solution for their PPC Mac. Just some smart marketing is needed here. Assume I am a MacMini user not been having Amiga ever. I got old MacMini, dying (Safari is slow, iTunes is slow, iPhoto is slow, iWork is slow etc). In most cases people just get Intel PowerBooks. But there's no idea what to do with the Mini. Well, if some sensible solution appears, MorphOS, with the internet support, many people would get it just for curiosity. Especially when it has a demo version. But there is a MUST! An application bundle. Someone has to make a bundle software e.g. non-profit CD (like image for download). Then it's just a few mouse clicks for them to make an old Mini a new Space Machine, with MorphOS and all required applications. Many people would.

Bootcamp and Parallels are only for Intel-based Macs, so they are no option on PPC Macs.

Keep in mind MorphOS hasn't been announced for Intel Macs, so that leaves out options 2 and 3, now I'm not sure what you're thinking with option 1, but Henes already gave a working option.

It would be nice to see it released. I am very tempted to get a Efika, but I know as soon as I do it will come out for the mini and I will have to pay for another license. At the current price being more then the Efika itself I sadly cant justify it.

And yes, I do regret selling the Peg II before any of you ask me about that.

Wifi was told to be probably not supported anytime soon. It is not only the drivers, but also the thing that you need at WPA2 support to make it anything like remotely safe. That would be some seroius work.

And regarding multiboot - whyshouldn't it be possible. AFAIK currently the installation of MorphOS on teh Mini is still kind of tricky (needs a Linux installation for installing (not for running, but for installing!)), but Apple ppc computers use some Open Firmware incarnation, thus a boot /device /bootfile should do. Unfortunately the Mac Mini?s firmware will probalby not support sfs or ffs, but the boot.img should work from any filesysem I assume and that one will load teh needed filesystem drivers. I don't knwo a good reason why dual boot shouldn't work...

You're right. I forgot that when those solutions were announced, Intel Macs had been introduced at the time.

By MorphOS custom boot I meant any other.

Well times change. And my financial situation did also.

I don't know your whereabouts but if it's say, US or Germany, well complete Sam price being roughly 500 Eur, this is for you, for me it's roughly 2300PLN, due to Eur / PLN factor whilst average salaries remain roughly the same regardless currencies.

My point is I want to have an Amiga-like stuff home soon, I won't wait, just pick anything within my budget. As simple as that.

And as I said, I feel convinced that any other hub/router is the way out, indeed.

    I'm in the UK.
Well my complete SAM440ep 667mhz system cost me 929.24euros from Vesalia which is made up of the following:

    SAM440ep Motherboard inc. AOS4.1
    Morex 3677 case
    2.5" SATA-II 320GB HDD
    Slimline SATA DVD Writer

I could have done it cheaper but the exchange rate was a lot better then and I had money saved from previous years bonus so I didn't worry too much. This represents very poor value compared to the Mac Mini 1.5ghz I picked up off ebay: ~250euros plus 150euros for MorphOS (when it arrives and assuming the price is the same as now). Ok so my mini doesn't have the superdrive and the HDD is a fair bit smaller but it has twice the ram and a cpu that is in a different league to the 440ep.

Shame you're not a little nearer to me, I would lend you my Efika to play with until your mac mini can run MorphOS
