If what he and you say is true, it must have been introduced with MorphOS 3.1 in July 2012.

No clue about any demo yet (possible that cyfm demoed, beside the Sam port, 3d on PowerBook in italy as well, but I am sure you can see the G5 itself (the 2.7 Ghz one) as well as 3D on G5, PowerBook and related iBooks on the next Geit@Home in around three weeks (22-24 March), as at least two betatesters will be there and can confirm the latest bounty progress.

I had the chance to see the 2.7 G5 a few times and it looks like MorphOS on drugs. OWB and VPDF fly on that system even more than usually. :D

If that's the case I must have missed the reports about that, unless there were none, which would be strange.

Splendid. I'm looking forward to reports and videos :-)

    Wow, what a shit storm.
Of course the 3D drivers would have gotten done eventually.

But they weren't being focused on, so the bounty was a good thing.
And why shouldn't Mark get a little money for his time and effort?

we're beginning to sound like Amiga users

I did not think anything written so far would indicate that anyone is against Mark getting a little money for his time and effort. If that is how anyone is taking my comments and concerns, then they are misreading my intent.

I am all for bounties and programmers getting paid for their time and efforts, and I will continue to donate what I can toward such bounties in the future. Perhaps some people are over reacting to certain comments they do not understand, or making a problem, where no problem exists (which is exactly what could be said about my own comments and concerns).

Some people may not understand why I would write a comment that says I hope there is no problem created between programmers, unless I had some knowledge that there was some action to indicate that a problem might exist, but I want to make it perfectly clear that this was not my intention, and I have no reason to believe that any problem exists, other than human nature and years of experience that comes with age and observing people.

I certainly hope that there are no problems between any of the MorphOS Development Team members, and that there never will be. By mentioning the possibility that a problem could be created, my intention was/is to help prevent any problems from ever happening, because now maybe the Team members will discuss this issue, before it can become a problem.

From now on I will just keep my concerns and opinions to myself, so that I don't upset anyone else in the future.

You know core team members themselves donated more than 200 € to the G5 bounty.

That isn't too surprising. Obviously, you guys use the OS too.
And a G5 port might sell some license keys.

I think the reaction to your comments has been surprisingly harsh. I'd hope it wouldn't result in such self cencoring David.

So we still on for a March release on this?

I seem to have accidently bought a Powermac 2.7 with the CPU board replaced with an air cooled 2.0 one, I would like to try a suitable OS on it.

Mark might be running a bit behind on this one.
I, for one, intend to be patient.
I'm just really grateful that its getting done.

Between the R300 3D drivers and the G5 port, Mark is really busting his ass for us.

    I a word, thanks Bigfoot.

Yes, the deadline ran out a week ago. But reading what he wrote a month ago, it might be that the G5 port itself is ready for release by now but still has to wait for the completion of other things required for the formal MorphOS 3.2 release and to be done by himself (R300 3D for instance) or other MorphOS Team members.

    > Between the R300 3D drivers and the G5 port, Mark is really busting his ass for us.

For sure. When the G5 bounty (including deadline) was started 7 weeks after the R300 3D bounty (without deadline) and I noted that this would delay the completion of the older bounty, this was said to be only my guess by the G5 bounty initiator.

All single CPU G5s and all Dual CPU G5s up to 2.3GHz (not to be confused with dual-core G5).

Hmmm, the 9650 is slower than the 9600 XT

    that don't seem right..

^Why not? I thought that the XT was a gaming card in contrast with the Pro and the 9650 (which is basically closer to the Pro version chipset wise).

Anyway, I thought that the logical step was to finish firstly R300 driver support and afterwards port MorphOS to G5 architecture. Or I am mistaken? Frankly ,more than 6 months have passed since the fast track of driver development started and it seems to me a little bit odd that we have no news whatsoever. Of course I am a patient man and can wait but I was really hoping that we would get 3D support prior to G5 (which seems a little more... complicated task).

Considering that the G5 bounty has a deadline (which already passed actually) while the R300 3D bounty has not, I guess that the G5 bounty is paramount. I don't think that R300 3D support was completed in the 7 weeks before the start of the G5 bounty.

    > more than 6 months have passed since the fast track of driver development started

Actually, 6 months will have passed only tomorrow ;-)

I've been thinking we will get both at the same time with the release of MorphOS 3.2. See also what pega-1 has said back in December:

If things progress correctly I suspect we'll probably get 3D+G5 simultaneusly in next versions. And probably other goodies.
