Posted By: jacadcaps. on 2020/12/9 17:01:46
Wayfarer 1.8 is now out with jpeg2k support, latest OpenSSL and cURL, translation services support, network performance and many other improvements. This release also contains several important bug fixes that were impacting overall stability.

To download Wayfarer 1.8, either go to https://wayfarer.icu or select 'Check for Updates' in Wayfarer's menu. To update, simply extract the lha archive and copy all files over your existing installation, replacing old files. Your settings will not be affected.

Full changelist:
  • Added jpeg2k support via OpenJPEG
  • Reports browser locale based on system locales
  • Added a Translation service support w/ settings
  • Added session quicksave hotkeys
  • Improved wheel scrolling and mouse cursor code
  • Adjusted page/wheel scrolling deltas to be in-line with WebCore's suggested values
  • Scrolling page content is now possible with mmb pressed
  • Esc key deactivates the WebKit container, instead of being swallowed
  • Improved the cURL thread loop
  • Various UI improvements in the Printing Mode
  • Improved shutdown times
  • Linked against latest OpenSSL 1.1.1i and cURL 7.74.0
  • Fixed RMB to not select word under cursor if there already is a selection in editable components
  • Fixed pasting text into editors handling paste via JS/DOM Events
  • Fixed a crash in FavIcon loader
  • Fixed a crash when logging into AppleID
  • Fixed a crash when closing a window with tabs that are pending website load
  • Fixed early startup issues where OpenURL could send OPEN commands before Wayfarer fully initializes
  • Fixed a race condition in curl cache handling
  • Fixed a use-after-free when closing a window or loading a session
  • Worked around a bug causing some localized strings to be empty
  • Download name scheme is stored when a download begins, so subsequent settings changes won't affect it
  • Page reload actually skips curl caches now
  • Command keys are no longer eaten by webkit
  • Loader now catches all ObjC terminal errors

    Awesome!

Browsing the library here now is faster for me than on OWB. I can feel a speed improvement for sure.
    Love these regular updates.

The auto update feature also worked a charm.

Thanks Shaf, but I've got more hardware than I have the room for in my condo already. Nice to know there are MorphOS users in the GTA though.

arff.. github have somes issues (some time 100% CPU and when i change tab... working), you can check when you surf in commit for example, open file etc..

    Somes ideas :
    1. When i see Raw sources code from github
"Select all" to copy all text from page
"Save as page " in menu or contextmenu, save direcly file with requester
In Download tab, have a "open drawer", maybe icon or contextmenu on "destination"

That's called JavaScript :) You may want to enable DOM timer throttling, it tends to help on some websites.

    That's on TODO.

There's no way to 'open a drawer' (and select a file in it) using Ambient's arexx commands. You can double-click on a downloaded file to open it though.

Idk if that means my smooth scrolling suggestion, but now Wayfarer finally scrolls same distance with OWB and it's much more pleasant to use :)

This is extra useful on non hd setups where website layout exceeds visible window. Free scrolling with mmb is awesome!

Now, a final suggestion, seeing that Wayfarer spikes up to 65% cpu usage when rapidly scrolling up/down moszone, compared to 23% of last OWB, is it possible to assist on the port to x64, so we can finally get rid of these ancient machines asap?

    :D

Edit: Hmm seems that pointer doesn't get altered when hoovering on top of a link. Didn't notice that in the past. Is there an option which can be enabled?

    Thanks for the update Jacadcaps.

Installed on my Powerbook and G5 Quad. Definite speed increase on the G5 not so sure on the Powerbook.

I'll try it on my MacMini over the weekend and see how that does.

I noticed that yesterday after reading your post. Pointer didn't change over links.

But today it does. Did nothing, just powered on the powerbook today.

Ok, I got it to happen again 2 times. It is triggered by scrolling with MMB. After that, pointer doesn't change over links.
Closing and running Wayfarer again solves it.

Made a note to look into this before 1.9 is out. Thanks for reporting the issue.

Thanks for another update! Can i offer a UI suggestion? Is it possible you could expand the webview window to the left/right/bottom edges of wayfarers window? On smaller screens this equals a lot of wasted space. I've linked a horribly edited photo of the area i'm talking about.

The spacings are editable already - just open MUI Settings. You can click on Windows -> Backgrounds -> Window -> Frame and edit spacing there. Groups -> Tab Groups -> Container -> Frame will also let you regain space.

Of course you can select files in a view.
    There is the Select command:
    Code:
    Select ALL/S,NONE/S,PATTERN/S,VIEWID/N,NAME

You just need to specify the ViewID of the window where you want to select files in it.

Its just a little bit clumsy to get the ViewID of an window (hint: with the command ViewList STEM/A).
