Software : : WHDLOpener - E-UAE / WHDLoad integration with MorphOS / Ambient

WHDLOpener package integrates E-UAE/WHDLoad with MorphOS/Ambient. WHDLoad games can be started by running the slave file or just the game icon. ADF images can be run in E-UAE, mounted in MorphOS and emulated AmigaOS.
  • You need to have AmigaOS 3.1 Workbench3.1 disk (or image), A1200 Kickstart 3.1 and A500 1.3 ROM images. SDK is recommended, though you can get away with some commands in C:.
  • WHDLOpener is configured to run E-UAE on a lores 24Bit 320x256 screen. Make sure your screenmodes are set up. If your monitor does not support 320x256, edit A1200_WHDLoad.conf, replace 320x256 with 640x512, set "gfx_linemode=double" and "gfx_lores=no".
  • Context menu for slave file has additional entry to run E-UAE in the windowed mode. It can be changed in the MIME settings for x-amigaos-whdload.
  • Only first E-UAE instance has UAE ARexx port.
  • Starting multiple games at the same time will not work.
  • Paths/Volumes need to be the same both on MorphOS and emulated AmigaOS. If you add or rename a volume in your system and want to run WHDLoad games from it - don't forget to add this volume in the E-UAE config.
  • E-UAE can be quit by CTRL ALT Q. For more information regarding E-UAE or other WHDLOpener external component refer to original documentation.
  • Custom tooltypes are not supported.
  • Installation can be made offline if these packages are in the main directory:
    E-UAE_1.0.0-JIT.lha.xz + rmh.lha + skick346.lha + WHDLoad_usr_small.lha

    You should also thank asrael for his nice arexx script :). e-uae has fixes for overlay and opens a 24bit screen instead 16bit one (there are some issues with 16bit). Fab's e-uae is still faster with enabled JIT, for most games with "cpu_speed=real" it doesn't matter that much though. For system usage with a p96 gfx emulation - Fab's e-uae.sdl is included. There are also some nice configs for E-UAE and an ADF action for Ambient.

    Note that as a whole package it needs to be installed using the script. Otherwise it will not work or if you copy installed one, running from "MyImaginaryVolumeName" will fail.

    Great stuff! I've been thinking that something should be added to the library regarding to install E-UAE, but maybe this kind of automated script is a better solution :)

    BTW. have you thought to add some config lines which are recommended for the JIT in the readme? Or are they unnecessary for this WHD/ADF use? IIRC they did speed up 060 demos etc back then when I added them in my configs..

    These settings will make sure you get the best performance from the JIT
    compiled code and workaround any known issues.

    A1200-040-max-jit-p96.conf from E-UAE archive has JIT enabled. For WHD/ADF use JIT is unneccesary as long you don't run things like AB3D2. Emulated Amiga starts much faster too, but it requires cpu_speed=max (I didn't notice any difference in CPU usage with cpu_speed=real and jit enabled) and I didn't want to hog the CPU at 100% esp. for Powerbooks.

    If you can run installer scripts from Grunch, then yes :).

    Hi, I tried to install it but after several attempts, no luck. The maximum progress has been 25% and fails with this message:

    This is a fatal error and the Installation process will be terminated.


    Other attempts reached 20% or less, but always with command copyfiles. Any ideas what to check? I have downloaded all files from the readme.

    Open information window on "Install" and comment NOLOG. Make it (NOLOG). When installing it should create a WHDLOpener_inst.log on volume you install. Check this file maybe it will give you a clue, if not paste it here.

    Is MorphOS debug log clear? Try with 68k installer 44.10 from ndk3.9. There is some issue where morphos installer crashes but at least here it's pretty much random.

    SOLVED! My mistake, it was an error because the name of the E-UAE package; I had renamed it to E-UAE_1.0.0-JIT.lha.xz. Removing the ".xz" part solved the problem.

    Hi everyone,

    I need help to install WHDLopener, I get an error using the included installer as follows "Paste is missing". I have been looking at several repositories and tried using Grunch for the missing "Paste" with no luck.
