Software : : Bounty for JIT JS for Odyssey Web Browser
Posted By: pampers. on 2013/10/2 17:18:11
Yet another MorphOS.pl bounty is set for implementing a PowerPC code generator for Webkit, allowing it to compile JavaScript into native PowerPC code which in the end results in JavaScript executing faster (common called JIT JS). When bounty will be finished, this code will be implemented in the latest available version of Odyssey Web Browser. The bounty minimal sum is set to 800 €, estimated timeframe is 60 days since minimal bounty sum will be collected. Bounty taker is Mark „BigFoot” Olsen. You can participate in this bounty here.

Sweet! That should speed up some important productivity sites, such as Google Docs.

    ~£50 donated.
For a JS-JIT upgrade for Odyssey I see that as a real bargain.

    I get this from paypal:

After an initial review, we have identified a potential risk. Because of this, this payment is pending until we can conduct a more detailed review.

hope thats resolved soon, so bigfoot can start to code ;)

No worries guys, it's just me buying drugs in Mexico for that money ;) That delay will be gone soon. I cannot do anything with PayPal policy.

Most likely with it being a donation based payment, there'll be some checking to ensure it isn't tax evasion or (worse in their eyes) Paypal fee avoidance.

I got the same message, but the payment cleared within an hour or so.

    Some speculation:

"JavaScriptCore JIT might arrive at some point in the future [...], the polish MorphOS community started a bounty for that and Mark Olsen [...] accepted [...]. As Fabien Coeurjoly [...] already had email conversation with me regarding JavaScriptCore on PowerPC, it's quite possible (probable even?) the work will be based on the PowerPC MacroAssembler of TenFourFox."

"JavaScript JIT (the bounty for OWB by Mark) is actively under development but a bit behind schedule and was not shown"

    Thanks Andreas.

Has bigfoot given any hints as to an ETA for the JIT engine at all?
