Is the slow write bug fixed? Changelog mentions a caches fix in v1.14, is that it? Hopefully you'll optimize journaling for CF soon as it's an everyday usage for me. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the filesystem.

I wanted to change my external drive (1,5gb) from SFS/02 to ICEFS.

When trying to mount the partiton, the system freezes. Tried with 512/1025 Blocksize.

Smaller partitions work. Somebody tried a big partition yet?

Didnt have time for a bug report yet.

I got the same freezing result with a SD card (usb reader).

I could avoid formating the whole hd and losing the other partition when replacing the fs with same id.
Ive use sfs/2 and then i could change from automount to disable again.

Before the system froze es soon as i plugged in the hd.

Write speed is quite good now. Journalling is still unoptimised
though and this has extra bad effect on CF memory it seems,
even on sequential writes. Journalling will be improved in next version.

This is weird. I use up to 192 GB partitions at the moment, i know others use big partitions too. So no idea what is problem with this information.

Probably not related, but I'll mention it anyway:
If you are partitioning drive on MorphOS before version 2.3
(say 1.4.5), then DO NOT use the last sector of the drive for partition as there is a bug in ide.device that reports one sector too large disk.

    Hi,

Also a freezing problem when putting 1.14 on the RDB of my external USB HD (80GB evenly divided into two partitions).
Does work OK when I went back to 1.13 (had to use Linux to get rid of the RDB).

OTOH 1.14 does work OK on my MacMini with mountlists for two partitions (230GB and 10GB).

Oh, BTW any usefull settings for IceFS (in either config or mountlist) as speed differs between 15MB/s (for large files e.g animations) and 2.5MB/s (for lots of small files e.g. sourcecode) when copying between Mini and external USB HD.

    Bye HAK

Hi, thanks for your hard work.
I have some problems with the last revision of your filesystem on my Mac mini.
The system freeze when I try to mount my Ice partition, I dont remember the size off the partion, something between 20 and 25GB, version 1,13 worked fine on that partition.
Also when I try to use Ice on my USB-Flash the system freeze:( this worked well with version 1,13.

@HAK can you post your mountfiles that works with 1.14.

I have found and fixed a doslist related dead-lock that could cause freeze or even crashes. As for useful settings.. for flash stuff atleast 128k cachelines, using max "prealloc factor" speeds up sequential writes. Things are still being improved in the cache/speed area so
not easy to give best settings..

    In a few days possibly.
The previously mentioned fix didnt fix freezing for all.
    Maybe current fixes will :)

Anyone who has freezing bugs can try following WIP version of IceFS and send me resulting debuglog. I need as many logs as possible really.. http://blubbedev.net/temp/icefs115wipdbg2.lha
Send log to dev blubbedev net.

Added a version with a lot more debugging output.
    http://blubbedev.net/temp/icefs115wipmegadbg.lha
If system freezes, then a serial cable connected to
second computer using a terminal program is
only way to get this debug output unfortunately.

Is it also possible to get that output via firewire? Unfortunately I've got only a Mac mini fort testing.

Possible. But I have no idea how :)

OTOH.. a bug has been fixed that could maybe be responsible
for the freeze. Did you have .recycledir activated for your
freezing partition ? In that case it could be worth trying latest wip @ http://blubbedev.net/temp/icefs115wipdbg3.lha

    I guess so.

    But never done that myself.

I found what causes my system to freeze.
HDConfig use MaxTransfer = 0xFFFFFFFF and Mask = 0xFFFFFFFF by default, this freezes my system.
If I change to MaxTransfer = 0x7FFFFFFF and Mask = 0xFFFFFFFC everything works ok!
BTW haven't tried this setting with 1.14 I'm using beta 2.0 now.
