Games : : Trailer of Fortis
Posted By: MDW. on 2010/5/3 15:00:44
Trailer of FortisEncore Games is proud to announce the premiere of its new game - FORTIS. The game is based on classical shooter scheme although presented in new 3D environment. Full version of the game should be out some time in May, but you can check the video-trailer today!

The Fortis isn't port of any version for other platforms. The Encore Game Engine and the Fortis were created special for MorphOS and later ported to iPhoneOS and Windows. Unfortunately Encore Games can not disclose the price of the game and publisher. However, Encore promises that the version for MorphOS will not be expensive.

More info about Fortis for MorphOS, screenshots and 5 minutes-long video-trailer (see on YouTube or download AVI/XviD) available on:

Looks quite good, overall. I especially like the subtle 3D camera rotations that add a certain depth to the game world.

    Well done.

That's an odd mix of platforms it's targeted at - how did MorphOS get a look in? And what was involved in bringing it to MorphOS?

how did MorphOS get a look in?

The main Fortis coder, Mariusz "MDW" Włodarczyk, is a MorphOS user and known Amiga scene coder. See demos he programmed a few years ago: Sulaco and By Night. Both run on MorphOS. What is interesting, Fortis engine (as the programmer says) has been written on MorphOS mainly, and then ported to iPhoneOS and Windows.

What a nice looking surprise! Pity their home page rejects me now, but the videp is impressive. Such as seeing a MorphOS Team member saying he wants to play it!

    Great job guys!

The game looks pretty nice, but based on the trailer the gameplay itself doesn't seem very exciting. But then again, it's just a preview, so I assume a lot of things will still change :)

Great looking game. I am looking forward to get my hands on it.

Hopefully the keyboard controls can be adjusted, so I can put it in here using the Efika:

looking absolutely great! cant wait to play it.

but will it support dual-analog gamepads (ps2/xbox style)? it a must have option for a game of this kind. its playable with keys+mouse but no fun at all (unless you reienvented the method of controls:)

(i dont know if morphos itself supports dual-analog pads, i hope it does)

    The game looks really nice!

How about making backgrounds more "part of the game", like you having to shoot certain parts, or even having huge end-of-level boss, where boss is the background?

    Anyways, looks great this far!

Quite impressive and polished. Only thing I'd like to see after having seen the demo is more "interaction" between the ship and powerups, they seemed rather oblivious to the fact that the ship collided with them.

Great! But the Fortis isn't big game. It is just simple casual game.

That's an odd mix of platforms it's targeted at - how did MorphOS get a look in? And what was involved in bringing it to MorphOS?

I created engine and code of the Fortis. The MorphOS version has been created for fun and satisfaction. I use Pegasos with MorphOS every day. Initially I planned another game and the engine was made only for MorphOS. However plans has been changed and we decided to make main version for iPhoneOS. But I wanted to finish MorphOS. The version helped me to discover several bugs in Fortis. :) In future I am going to make all our games for MorphOS too. Of course if it will be possible. Unfortunately next game won't work on desktop computers (so MorphOS too) because the game requirements touch screen with multitouch. However third game will be works well on desktop computers. :)

In last days we have finished keyboard controlling in Fortis. So... maybe the strange game-machine will be able to steering the Fortis.

Unfortunately we didn't make interaction with background. I would be able to make it because backgrounds are 3D graphics rendered in realtime. However we wanted to make simple casual game. We don't plan develop the Frotis. Now we are very busy because our next project requires a lot of work/time. It is better way than developing of the Fortis. :)

The Fortis for MorphOS has been already finished. We are preparing the game for test on: Efika, MacMini, MrophOS 1.4.5. I use only Pegasos 2 with MorphOS 2.4 so I should make these tests. We are planning release Fortis for MorphOS in the May 2010.

Just wanted to point out that it's not a small amount of work to make the game run on both (old) desktop OpenGL (tinygl) and OpenGL ES, especially if using ES2.

Slightly offtopic, but what about N900 version aswell? :-)

FORTIS for iPhone and iPod touch has been approved for sale on the AppStore. The game is available on AppStore
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fortis/id373158239?mt=8
We can't decrease THE LOWEST PRICE ($0.99 or 0.79eur).
FORTIS for MorphOS probably will be released in the May of 2010. :)

It isn't very hard because MorphOS GL (TinyGL) is really quite good. I used OpenGL ES 1.x because I wanted to make version for older iPhone/iPod too.

Slightly offtopic, but what about N900 version aswell?

N900 has no multitouch but has keyboard so it would be possible. Unfortunately we have no time for other platforms. :( Our micro-engine is ported only for MorphOS, Windows and iPhoneOS. First of all we make versions for MorphOS, iPhoneOS and Windows (the last version has low priority).

Thank you very much! Buying the version for iPhone you support the version for MorphOS. Many elements of the Fortis code was created on MorphOS. :)

After releasing MorphOS version each owner iPhone/iPod/iPad version will get micro-bonus.

Could you write a comment on your AppStore if you liked the Fortis game? :) Of course positive or negative - depends on your opinion.

Just one day left till end of may ...

...and we're removing the last bug. I hope the last. :)

Unfortunately the first version of the Fortis won't be tested on MorphOS 1.4.5. Only MorphOS 2.4 (Efika, MiniMac and Pegasos2/G4).

The bug (and next one bug) has already found and fixed. We are testing the game still.

I am sorry for the delay. I've wanted to publish Fortis without known bugs and new features. :)
