    Hi,

Like the subject asks: are there people out there playing this game?

I played yesterday for a while until I got to mission 5 (or so) and I'm wondering where I can put up those coal/iron/gold mines?
In Settlers you had these white bearded folks to investigate the mountainsides, but in this game you've got your scout for covering terrain quickly, or can he do more stuff?

Perhaps somebody has discovered some interesting stuff in this game or has interesting attacking tactics? :-)

    Hi Senex,

    Nice forum :-)
I saw there are also a plenty of Dutch people on that forum.

It's too bad you don't have time to play this game. It's very good! :-D

    Hi all,

mines can be built starting from I think mission 4 or 5. Coal mines can be placed on black fields on the map. Iron and Gold mines can be built in the mountains, when the mountains have gold or iron inside which is shown by a yellow/gold or red texture.

I hope you will enjoy this game and all the other stuff that we will bring to MorphOS:)

    Best Regards

    Hello LT56,

    Thank you for this information.
I remember reading in the manual something like bluish color for iron, but I don't know what color this is.

So, coal can be found on the "floor" and iron and gold in the mountains! :-)

    Well, about the enjoying part:

I'm hooked up to this game as I was with The Settlers and Command&Conqueror!
This game looks like The Settlers but it has some stuff completely different and that is why I like it a lot :-D

I also liked the nice cd-label and manual!

    Hello everybody,

    I'm stuck in mission 4?! :-o

Those yellow submarines....uuh, soldiers :-) keep attacking and I'm getting through my resources!

    Anybody played mission 4?

    I have a few questions:

    - Which one needs more food: a recruit in barracks or a soldier?
    - How many serfs do you need for efficiently bringing goods around?
    - I don't think there is a screen in which you can set the priority for what the serf should carry around like in The Settlers, or am I wrong?

    @Senex
I checked that site, but they talk a lot about a game tpr or so?? :-?
At first I thought it was another name for Knights&Merchants but now I think it's something else.
But it is a nice site! :-)

I may be wrong on this one - as I don't play K&M (except for the Demo; have to order one first) - but is it possible that TPR is a short form for "The peasant rebellion" which might be a mission disk or something alike?

At least that's what I think after reading through some comments on this site.

I'm trying to play K&M. Unfortunately MOS 1.3 did something to my Pegasos =)

K&M plays fine except in battle, which makes it crawl.

BTW, I found cheats that also work for the MOS version for anyone not patient to play through it.

    This is very strange indeed!
I also installed the 1.3 version and everything works normally.
I played yesterday for a few hours, but nothing strange happened. I even started that 40+ minute MP3 of Alan first with AmigaAmp and rightaway started K&M. So I heard the whole "speech" of Alan while playing the game. After the speech, automatically I heard the sound of K&M! :-D

Back to topic, how did you install MorphOS1.3?
Do you have a lot of proggies running?
I only have TurboPrint (own version) running and I disabled Rexx in the MorphOS dir and installed the wb3.9 Rexx.

Thanks for the link, I don't want to use it.....yet!
First I want to try hard to get it on my own :-)
So, if you have some attacking or building tips...

    Hi HAK,

Could this then be for the Windows version?

Order it! It's worth it! :-)
(I mean ofcourse the MorphOS version)

    Hi,

TPR is indeed THE PEASANTS REBELLION, which is sort of a Gold edition with added missions and a couple of new units and buildings. It was released in November 2001 for the PC.

Regarding the Cheatz: The PC cheatz do indeed work on Mac and MOS versions of the game, but I would recommend not to use them as they will spoil too much of your fun.

Somebody mentioned that the game seems to loose performance on his machine in battles? In which level and with how many troops is that happening?

    Hi LT56,

I only use cheats when I can't go further with a game, but that happens not much. I prefer hints, like with this game and mission 4 I would like to know with which building to start, how to progress (not detailed ofcourse, but hints in that direction).
As said in this thread I encountered a lot of resistance of the yellow army, so I have to have some good tactics.

I asked some questions, could you give some clues? :-)

    Hi Spidey,

Have you read the pages in the manual about The Art of War? I think this pretty much sums up, what you will need to do to overcome the Yellow army. Protect your archers!!

    I hope this helps:)

First I tried the old 'copy_all_new_files_over_all_old_files' trick, but that didn't work well at all so I reinstalled it from scratch.

Now most things work (that worked with 1.2) but like I said K&M doesn't work well in 'battle mode'

    That would be me =)
Whenever there is battle the system starts to crawl. Havent been able to play past level 3 or 4 yet because of this. Though it seems it doesn't matter whether there are 2 or 200 troups engageing - same result...

Might as well point out my system specs:
    Pegasos
    April fix
    512 MB (2x256MB) registered ECC
    Radeon 9000 gfx
    IBM GXP75 HDD
    MOS 1.3 installed from scratch

and the usual built in stuff...

    Hello erkers,

This is indeed a very strange problem!
Youve installed 1.3 from scratch on an empty partition and all?!

Did you try to run K&M from cd?
What happens then in the battles?

    As for me:

I'm still stuck in level 4. Those troops keep coming and it seems they've already have a very large army built and furthermore, they keep making troops with the same speed as I do.

I don't even want to think how tough level 5 will be! :-)

Indeed it is! And a very good idea that to try running the game off the CD. The problems are gone! And yes, my 1.3 is installed clean on a newly formatted harddrive.

Now all I have to do is figure out WHY it won't work off a harddrive. :-?

    Update:

Moved the K&M directory from the FFS partition to a SFS partition, and guess what happend =)

Seems my problems are related to a FFS filesystem...??? Anyone have any idea why?

    Hi erkers,

Glad I could give you some useful tips. :-)

could it be there's some problem with the buffers in your FFS partition?
Or maybe the reading-part from the FFS partition or so?

Ok, now go on continue to play that game! :-D

Well I read every part of the manual and did try it all, I'm getting there, but that Yellow army is big! :-)

Thank you for your advice. :-)

By default all FFS partitions receive a buffer size of 30 - which is enough unless you do something demanding. For the partition where my Quake2 lies I use for example a buffer size of 4000. The difference is awesome.

I haven't had a buffer size lesser than 300 for ages, and currently its 1000 (or maybe 1030).

Don't understand how this could affect K&M in this fasion though. I didn't have problems with billions of serfs, builders, bakers etc running around. Also it doesn't matter if the army concists of 10 or 100 soldiers. Its the fact that they engage in battle that slowed the system down.

Anyway. It works well now. And I guess the tip of the day for everyone is not to put K&M on a FFS formatted partition =)

    Spidey:
The trick seem to be to build up a vast army before crossing the bridge. The enemy doesn't seem to bother me before i do that.

    I'm on level 5 now =)

    Hi Spidey,

one trick I often used in level 4 is to built a couple of watchtowers at the bridge. Built dozens of archers and place them behind those towers. Make sure you have lance carriers and/or Knights in front of them. Then send out one archer to tease the enemy to come across the bridge. BTW, when I say dozens of archers, I really mean 25 or more.

Level 4 is only a teaser of what is to come, so I guess you will be playing K&M for quite a while:)
