    hello,

i can not on my standard Pegasos 2 display with MysticView or load with FxPaintLite this very big picture, 9372 x 9372 in 24 bits, from Aminet Set 12 cd 47, wtc-photo.jpg. the 2 programs says that there is not enough memory. my computer has 256 mb ddr memory and my gfx card is Radeon9200SE. but on my amiga 1200 aga, 1260 turboboard 64 mhz 64 m memory, Visage 39.22 can show it. it takes 2 minutes but it can. i use normal picture.datatype with jfif.datatype 44.7 of Gunther Nikl and the assign JPEGTMP: to T:. what/where is the problem whith the Pegasos 2 ?

If I'm not mistaken Visage uses it's own jpeg decode algorhytms, and not the datatype system.

If my calculations are correct: it occupies 85 Mb in ham8 - impossible that you can display it on a stock 1200 with 2 Mb chip ram with datatypes. Or with 8 Mb gfx ram.

In 24 bit it occupies 257 Mb. That simply won't fit. See the problem?

The picture is BIG. Maybe some custom picture viewer can show it to you.

The problem with MysticView is even worse than that; the picture will be copied from a datatypes object to a buffer of its own. If I calculate correctly, this would sum up to a peak memory consumption of at least 600mb. I'd suggest to find a better tool for that purpose, as I'm not going to enhance MystiView anymore. It does well what it does, but I think it's conceptually outdated now.

I think Visage can scale images while loading them to fit the screen... That should lower memory requirements...

It's the way the datatypes system works. Don't know if it will change, but Visage didn't use datatypes for the picture. Add to that, Visage scales it down, and even if not, in ham8 you have to deal with third the size of the original.

In it's real size it just won't fit, as it's enermous. Use software which has been designed to be capable to handle such large images, like ImageFX, etc.
