I can't get MorphOS 1.45 to recognize my windows formatted USB sticks.

I have updated Posiedon the latest availible release and have both fat95 and ntfs in L.

When I insert the stick it looks like Posidon configures it proberbly but no icon appears and I can't get to the volumes any other way.

I have included the error log from posiedon.

Do I have to do anything else besides update Posiedon and have fat95 and ntfs in L?

I have ext2 filesystem in L also and it gets to my linux drives with no problem. I have mounted the linux drives (giggledisk), but I can't have a mount for USB sticks that are pulled out and put in on and off - or can I and how do I do that. Giggledisk?

    Thanks in advance!

    I couldn't see your attachment.

I have a similar problem, I can't use my SD card reader.
Poseidon 3.3 reports device mounted successfully but
info says that it is not a valid disk.

    I have fat95 in L: so I don't understand.

Same here with a MicroSD and a card reader... But I don't push the test.

Funny thing, I exposed exactly the same problem in anther thread yesterday, got ninety views, but no reply...
The symptoms seem the same: Volumes do not get mounted by Poseidon.
So, I posted exactly the same into the MorphOS mailing list. A french guy, called Gonzalo Meza answered this:

    Quote:

I had the same problem, and solved it by formatting the cards as FAT with morphos... Both my Pentax camera, my PC, my A1200 and my MorphOS now recognize it (question to those more knowledgeable : why does this work? RDB?)

Indeed, this worked. I backed up and quick formatted my SD card (128 MB) in Ambient. It surprised me that I couldn't choose the filesystem for it, but anyway, it got formatted as FAT. By the way, the normal format funcion, as opposed to quick format, is unbelievably slow.
As Gonzalo said, the card is indeed readable by the camera that previously formatted it.

In conclusion: I suppose that media formatted by cameras and Windows have a slightly different version of FAT that our FAT95 does not recognize.

jcmarcos : Thank you for spreading the tips. I'm just formatting my micro sd right now and it really slows like hell. 1% in two minutes (it's a 512 MB, so 100% = 3 h20)... I hope it'll rulez after that.

    I'll keep you inform ;-)

For your information: I cancelled the format function (with a bit of fear, I must confess), and then did a simple quick format, which only initializes, and took just ten seconds. The card works indeed this way, no need to wait for hours!

    Just tried formatting:
MorphOS reports original format = Custom FS 0x46415401 <FAT1>

It doesn't change after formatting, but I reformatted 2 cards and they work OK. There must be some very small difference in the fat95 driver.

    thanks!

Exactly. That "Custom FS 0x46415401 <FAT1>" was the bit I didn't remember in my previous post.
By the way, isn't there any way to choose the filesystem for the format function? I guess it can be done via shell, but I don't remember the syntax.

Like most other commands format will supply it's template if you give "?" as the only argument, ie. type:
    Code:
    format ?
    in a shell.
