Hello to all. I have installed SFS 1.4.5 with every update on MUI and Ambient exists. I'd like to know if there is a way to update SFS. I still have the 1.210 that comes with MorphOS.

If yes, how this could be done?

MOS > 1.4.5 will do the trick. It shall include an updated version of SFS. It is not recommended to use SFS-68k.

Why isnt recomended the using of 68k filesystems? The handler its only a mere I/O bound after all, right?

I don't think that using 68k filesystems is not recommended, PFS3 for example works fine under MorphOS. But when it comes to SFS you need to consider that the current 68k versions are a completely different branch of development from that included with MorphOS.

SFS-M68K is not recommended, because it is from brain dead Strohmeyer AOS4 fanatic and may cause problems and incompatibilities on MorphOS.

Strohmeyer's SFS versions are indeed not recommended. Better stick with good old working 68k SFS and the PPC one included with MorphOS.

Well.. i had some time ago SFS 68k version, and i had some problems, e.g. when i/o access to HD was very intensive, thre was too big processor usage (probably because it's JIT emulation). In short - with SFS 68k You can't get as good transfer as with MOS version. e.g. Robin Hood (at least demo) was much slower because of intensive HD access.

That's pretty obviouis since 68k is **surprise** emulated.

As You can see in this thread, it isn't obvious for everyone... ;)

That should be enough to convince people to avoid it.

Also remember that "bigger version number" doesn't always mean "has significant bugfixes and/or new features". And when comparing two totally separate branches, you really can't compare different releases only by their version numbers.
