    Great News NicoPPC

Thank you for your work? Are you going to implement Altivec support or DVD menus?

    Hi !

There is no menu support in MPlayer (even on Linux). there will not be
    on MorphOS either.

However, I hope to have the time to make a GUI.

    Bye

Dear Nico, is it possible that you support much more DVD-ROM drives? I have tried plenty of DVD drives and unfortunately MPlayer cannot unlock the drive unless the DVD has no region protection (logically there is no need to unlock this way).

    Yes, please!
    I have LG GCC-4320B Combodrive and MOS/mplayer doesn't seem
to support playing back DVDs while it worked alright with
    x86 Linux mplayer based program.

Is that really the case? I tried disabling my drive's region protection
(using hacked bios), and it still didn't work. I'm not sure why the
current version of MPLayer is picky with certain drives (if it's a
bios issue or something other). Still an excellent program though, and
I'm glad to hear of it's continued development.

It seems that the DECSS stuff is tricky with Mplayer. It only likes certain drives. The drive in my sig works GREAT with mplayer in MOS. It is recommended. I also recently had a Mitsubishi DVD
ROM that worked with encrypted dvds.. I have a Samsung COMBO SM352 that sometimes works with some DVDs, but usually does not...

I also region hacked my COMBO DVD drives (including both SAMSUNG SM-352B and LG GCC-4480B) but this did not help, as mplayer does only play DVD's with NO region protection.

If you use a Windows PC, you also need another program (such as DVD Region Free, DVD Region Killer, AnyDVD) to 'fool' the software you try to play the DVD, too. Hacking the DVD-ROM firmware doesn't help alone.

mpdvdkit2 was updated before 1.0_pre1 was released. It should have greater drive support. As for menus, I wrote the original patch for mplayer but there are some features missing in mplayer needed to get it to work. Noone else was interested in helping me so the patch was eventually removed, sometime before 0.90 was released I believe.

MPlayer G2 is supposed to have the proper features to support menus but I haven't tried it in a while. I don't think I'll ever go back to developing on MPlayer either, it's mostly a large hack that works amazingly well. ;)

However, I hope to have the time to make a GUI.

An idea could be to make an arexx port with commands to drive mplayer and commands to get the state of mplayer (progression, sound level, ...). Then i'm sure someone could make a nice gui with these commands.

Last time I checked player sources, I noticed that the 'API' to control mplayer was really messy and scattered amongst many files (some were only accessible when GUI switch was enabled).

I was wondering how the update of Mplayer was coming; will there be a release on short-term? Or should be set up a bounty :-P

I hope it will run faster on Pegasos II G3, because some DivX movies that were smooth using Frogger were not perfectly smooth on MPlayer for MorphOS.
    I wonder why... I'm using a Radeon 7500...

You can jump mplayer window to another screen. How to do it:

    1)Switch to fullscreen mode.
2)Change to screen, you want get mplayer window on.
3)Click RMB on screen cycle gadget and select mplayer screen.
    4)Press F.

    That should do it...

Well, I thought that it will likely be made easier in the next mplayer release, which will be made available very soon, right? :-)
    (just hoping so...)

    Hi folks

I have just finished writing a tutorial of MPlayer for the up-comeing issue of Total Amiga Magazine.

There are two things MPlayer needs that I have hilited in the tutorial, the first is a minor need the second a must as it actually encompasses two things.

    1. multiple camera angles. (nice but not needed)

    2. Slang and Alang needs to consider more than just two letters as a code. I'll explain that further: My Shrek DVD has 4 languages as the film track, EN, ES, PT, CA. Those in themselves are fine. However there is also an English Commentary track, identified as "EN AID". there is no way on earth for MPlayer 0.91 to be able to select EN AID.

As a consequence of the same thing, subtitles via slang are also done over. To use shrek again - Shrek has EIGHT subtitle tracks.
Film subtitles for EN, ES PT. Commentary track subtitles for EN, ES, PT and two other tracks in ES and PT (bonus material subtitles?). There is no way for MPlayer to choose the commentary subtitles as EN will always use the first one it finds. Therefore numbers should be able to be used to as the verbose info put 0 through to 7 against that lot.

    So, how about it? ;-)
