Well anyway, the point is that 3.1.4, rather than being a fix and tidy up of old bugs and limitations, seems to be a full scale re-implementation of 3.9 and that many of the design choices in this favour emulator owners and those with high end accelerators like the Vampire.
Fast RAM or not, someone with an unexpanded A3000 or similar classic hw should probably just stick with 3.9 and turn the glowicons off.
