Now that I have upgraded my mobile computing needs to a Hackintosh notebook, I don't need my MorphBook anymore. My remaining iBook will be enough for my MorphOS needs.

Machine is in top condition. Theres is only one bump in the middle of the trackpad. But its very minor. Display is crystal clear. There are no bended parts or things like that. It looks like new.

- PowerBook G4 1,67GHz, 5,8 model (hires display)

Three questions:
1. The keyboard is in german or english language.
2. The battery clock works?
3. You shipping the package to Spain?

keyboard is german (QWERTZ), battery works and shipping to spain is possible.
Clock is reseted every time the battery's completely depleted.

i don’t know, but the time is lost everytime the battery is empty. btw i have never seen a coin battery in those powerbooks.

Humm, the powerbooks has a coin battery rechargable of littium, but with the time the battery is get damaged and when you remove the 15 inch battery or its empty the clock lose the time. And is difficult search these coin rechargeable battery.

The small battery may be dead, or just didn‘t get charged in ages.

The are only when the main battery is really 100% full, which won‘t happen with old or 3rd party batteries.

Remove main battery and keep your PB charging for afew hours.


IBooks afaik rely on the main battery and lack a seperate small one.

In the Powerbook 5,8 (A1138) there is a small silvered plastic (electrical insulating) covered rechargeable battery that keeps the clock and some other features/preferences retained for its user, but as Kronos has already mentioned the PRAM battery, which is specific to this model, only gets charged once the main battery is fully charged, so you need to keep the Powerbook on charge for a good while once the main battery has charged, or it won't get charged.

In any case, if it's been powered off for a while then it's probably already totally discharged and needs the above charging process to be followed.

The A1138 (PRAM) battery (I believe the part number is 820-1819-A) can often be found for sale on that well known internet selling site eeB-A or you could try PowerBook Medic - USA, as they often carry lots of spares and probably have some of these batteries from used Powerbooks, and they are usually very helpful, and knowledgeable on such matters.

It is very easy to know the coin battery state with one multimeter, in my case it gives zero volts.
But this USA seller sells one only battery or you have buy more things, and he sells to all europe?

I am in the UK/GB and I have bought from this seller previously - very helpful, and they have videos of how to take apart a PowerBook if you need to, which can be quite handy/useful - and you can print out a document explaining it all if you prefer.

I saw a battery of the type you need on eeB-A just before I replied to this thread, but I think the thin 2 wire lead is missing from it, though it may just have not been in the photo - but make sure it is included if you are interested in it, unless you already have this lead/cable/connectors.
