NEW! Scalos Desktop Gallery

Everyone, to go along with the new Scalos forums, we've added a Scalos User Gallery.

Also, the "Ambient Grabs" is now called "Desktop Grabs," and the old "User Grabs" is now "User Grabs (Ambient)." This is due to a number of additions in the screengrabs found on MorphZone (Gnome, etc). Hopefully this new naming system will not confuse anyone.

Finally, I've uploaded the first grab of Scalos running under MorphOS.

    Have fun all!

    Hi Targhan,

Which version of scalos are you using? Is it the 68K or a MOS exe? Do you use the libs changed like for the old workbench, or is your MOs system 100% original?

Cool! :-D This is quite exciting IMHO. I will follow this closely, and may a first MorphOS native version be released soon! :-)

MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

The version of Scalos I have pictured is 1.4 beta, and it's the 68k version.

From what I've expericenced so far, to get it running one needs to install 1.2b (do NOT use wb replacement), then upgrade all of the componants with the ones included with the beta archive (following the readme's instructions from within the archive). Finally, using Scalos Prefs, set the window refreshes to "smart refresh" instead of simple.

It's not terribly stable here, but to be honest I have quite the collection of MUI classes and whatnot on my Pegasos making a "good test" virtually impossible. After a bout with Snoopium, I should know more about what's wrong or missing.

Cool, I may just have to give it a try!!

Well I gave it a try, its not worth it yet. I wasnt to pleased with
the results. I couldnt use a lot of my apps with it and some of the
windows were strange looking. I hope things look nice when the native
release comes out as well as a good installer.

    Hi serge,

there is no MOS executable available yet!
However, on my machine, I have a PPC-native version running, and I'm
busy trying to get the large bugs out of it!

    Regards,
    Juergen

    Good luck Juergen!

I am still trying to figure out which end is up on the beta. It seems that it will read some partitions and not others. I'm guessing it has something to do with SFS vs. FFS. I don't suppose there is a scalos package for deficons anywhere? ;-)

I'm not aware of any problems reading partitions/volumes. There are,
however, a few problems with PNG icon typing - the current beta has
problems with disk icons that have no type information!

Deficons support is built into Scalos right now.
All you need is a deficons.prefs file. Unfortunately, the OS3.9 prefs
    program needs ReAction.

    @ juergen

Good to hear about the progress! :-)

Hope to see a public beta of the MorphOS version soon, with MUI
instead of Reaction etc (but that won't perhaps be all that necessary
    for a first public beta) ... ;-)

For the first *release* version - don't aim any less than Ambient
(which is what Scalos will be compared to)! ;-)

    Thanks Juergen!!

    @ Targhan

That is really cool! Feels quite at home, judging from the looks of
it! :-) I would choose a different set of backrounds, icons and stuff,
but this looks very nice nevertheless!

    HERE'S one.

Also, the "new" version of Scalos doesn't have any of the problems that Targhan mentioned -- just install it and go!

    OK thanks :-)

    btw . . . i'm on MOS Pup with Scalos v 41.1 just now :-D

I'm still on the fine tuning stage but seems great! a little bit slower/responsive than Ambient 1.41 but nice . . . pratically a nice Ambient/WB mix.

I'm glad you like it Framiga. Its refreshing to hear you speak good things of MorphOS. I would use Scalos myself if it wasnt for lack of a dock. I like using Ambient's dock to much to give it up.

I'm planning on using ToolManager (which I've used for years on 3.x) when I get around to "properly" setting up my MorphOS system.

It's embarassing that I've had the Pegasos for 4 months and it's not "properly" set up yet -- I'm so ashamed! ;-)

I've been distracted by all the cool things you can do with the interface! :-)

AmiDock works but it doesn't shows the icons :-(

Tryed StartMenu but requires a reaction window.class 45 that bangs with the one used by AWeb!?!

btw . . . why the heck Aweb requires those old window class? (at least under MOS)

    How'd you do that?

BTW -- I like your choice of 'skins' & icons! ;-)

Edit: I just noticed that AmiDock doesn't appear to be displaying the 256 color icons correctly (like an Amiga 3.x machine without PowerIcons)
