Maybe OT a bit, but I love Apple's official statement:

Actually the real way to disable the sound is to write the variable SystemAudioVolume=%80 to NVRAM. This may actually survive poweroffs so you could in theory do it from a Linux bootable thumb drive. I can see all sorts of issues accessing NVRAM from Quark's memory map on MorphOS though...
(And no, OF is not affected at all.)
