    @Marcik

    Maybe one target for further debugging could be the comments section at amiga-news.de.

    While I had no problem to log-in to post a comment, Sputnik did freeze most of the times when clicking "Vorschau" (Preview). Commenting without logging-in did succeed, though (comment 7), and once it worked also being logged-in (comment 10).

    Since Poland is finally--FINALLY--getting PayPal support, MorphZone can also finally do a useful shift for development support that will reduce the bounty overhead and (hopefully) support more developers.

    If anything I think marcik deserves a partial payout of the bounty for the prerelease, sure it needs alot of work still, but atleast it gives users something to play (and crash. ;) ) with, and already it shows tremendous promise.

    What could be a better birthday present from the community? ;)

    Got it "working", can't log in on Amiga.org and I haven't managed to point a 2nd tab to anything but that post-stamp-site (which is Sputniks "homepage").

    I would think that is because there is no cache or cookie support yet. No way to know if it can handle secure sites either.

    Happy Birthday Marcik!

    And now a bit of critics. 8)
    I've not found CP-1251 codepage support in Sputnik. It is the most wide-spread system codepage in Russia. So all russian sites shows in some funny weird chars. 8) And finally it hanged on exit.

    hey VooDoo

    how have you got it working?

    Can you post here which version of Ambient are you using? with MosNET? or with MiamiDX?

    Snoopium claims a missing file in HTML/core.cfg and then i get a muimaster.library hit.

    Here i have:

    latest MUI 4 beta installed by the Sputnik installer

    Ambient 1.43 (20 Sept 2006-no debug version)

    reggae

    Thanks :-)

    I just found out something weird:

    When using 24bit screenmodes, the fonts don't get displayed in Sputnik (same behaviour as if you didn't reboot after installation).
    When I switch back to 16bit in Ambient-prefs, everything is working as it should. Can anybody reproduce this behaviour? I am using an Ambient build from yesterday.

    Btw, why is the horizontal scrollbar in Sputnik always displayed, even when everything fits onto the page?

    When using 24bit screenmodes, the fonts don't get displayed in Sputnik

    As I'm the author of TTEngine2 (the font engine used in Sputnik), some explanations: Reboot is not needed if you copy ttengine2.database file found in Sputnik archive, to both ENV: and ENVARC:. If you copy it to ENVARC: only, it is obvious that you need a reboot to have it copied to ENV: automatically. TTEngine2 reads this file at startup. It is a text file so you can edit it (for example add some new fonts), after edit you have to flush ttengine2.library from memory to make it re-read the file. Flushing will succeed only if no application has the library opened at the moment of doing it. Of course reboot always work.

    Missing text in 24-bits mode: TTEngine prints text making direct access to the screen bitmap in DoHookClipRects() system call. It is very fast but requires separate routine for every pixel mode. Version 0.14 of the library, distributed with Sputnik beta, supports three pixmodes: BGRA32, RGB16 and RGB16PC. Some cards may be using so called "packed 24-bit" mode (RGB24 or BGR24). These modes are not currently supported by TTEngine2. I can add them, but I need information if it is RGB24 or BGR24.

    With a current MUI it'll be a little hacky to make it dissapear. We can only hope that some later MUI version will have an option to control it.

    @Krashan&marcik

    Thanks for the clarifications. I am using a BVision (Permedia 2), so I can't set any 32bit screenmodes in Ambient-prefs. If I am not mistaken, the BVision uses BGR24!?

    And to finish the release at Morgoth's homepage you can download GCC 4.0.3 that was used to compile Sputnik. But make sure that you read the readme before installing or trying to compile any project.

    I have several problems with sputnik:

    1. After sputnik's installer installed MUI 4 beta, the backround color of Ambient's screen changed from the classic blue of MOS to purple. (I haven't set a wallpaper) And every time that i start MUI preferences and quit from it, then screen color changes again to some other colors like orange, brown, etc.
    I'm sure that this is a MUI 4 beta problem because when i installed back MUI 4 alpha, it's gone. Also the beta version makes some MUI apps to look funny. Sadly, sputnik doesn't work with the alpha version.

    2. ALL graphics in websites are been drawn as garbage or not at all.

    3. It appears to run slower than aweb and ibrowse for me, but since voodoo says that it is very fast, it's probably my fault.

    My gfx card is an BVision and i'm running Ambient 1.43

    Already traced that bug. "setenv SAVE CyberGraphX/FORCECHUNKY 1". Reboot and it should work.

    It's BGR24 for Radeons and Voodoos, so it will probably be enough to add this mode.

    @AmigaMancer,

    if you update to a recent MUI (more recent than april 2006), you need to update Ambient to a recent version as well. The issue you encounter is that your ambient still uses old and now obsolete muigfx.library which will make your pens random or so. :)

    So, get a nightly build at http://www.ambient-desktop.org/daily.html (probably a debug version there).
    If you want a debugless version, you can get http://fabportnawak.Free.fr/ambient/ambient-1.43-20061111.lha
