Hi Marik, thanks for the 2nd beta! Nice work. A couple of things I have noticed:

-page re-drawing while the page is loading is horrible, try http://www.engadget.com

-after typing in a url it can take upto 10 seconds before anything happens. Often I think the browser has crashed or froze. Some indicator that something is happening would help.

-I had "application is mediating" once, I don't know why but it crashed

-sometimes it would not load the URL after I typed in the address, for example http://www.cbc.ca

-the fonts were off a bit, (font sizes) for example again on http://www.engadget.com. Trying to change the font sizes didn't really help.

    Keep up the good work!

Sputnik is asking to me the version 2 on iconv.library.
    Why version 2?
    Sputnik is delivered with V1.2.

Where can I get the las version of this library please?

    Sorry, ;-)
    It's working now :-)

This is my first post with sputnik.

    @DDJ:

Note that Sputnik beta 2 has not [yet] image cache on disk. Then it
loads all images from the website everytime, which slows most sites
down significantly (especially MorphZone, typical forum page loads 100
    or more images).

Reinstalling xadmaster did'nt do the trick.

Install fonts just stops after downloading. Strange.

Krashan: Yeah, but there are also other problems, often making
scrolling in the same page (such as this one) rather slow. And while
typing this the page keeps refreshing about 100 times for no apparent
reason. Still, it looks great and I'm sure these problems will be
    solved!

Anyway, is there a way to enable antialiased fonts somehow? Perhaps
with some tte2 setting? And does anyone know if it's possible to
install fonts with even more alphabets supported? This is way cool to
    have in morphos.

If you look at the install script, you'll notice "xadunfile" is called to uncompress fonts. So make sure that you didn't only install xadmaster libs, but also its c commands such as xadunfile.

    xadunfile is in C.

To be completely sure that the files are correctly installed I copied them manually to libs and c.

I haven't (YET) registered xadmaster but that can't be the problem - can it?

Well this version at least works. I couldn't get the first beta to install (didn't try very hard). It's very slow when actually downloading pages, but I didn't notice it being slow when scrolling the window.

Anyway, progress!! Nice one Marciek :)

Hi HammerD (and everyone who have problems with Sputnik speed),
install apooler http://www.tbs-software.com/morgoth/files/apooler-1.0a.lha . This program rapidly speed up Sputnik in my case (not only Sputnik, some other programs also gain more speed :) ).

What's this story about fonts? I've downloaded this second beta, and I'm eager to try it out, but I've seen that font setup script, and I know it won't work at home, because I don't have internet over there.
Is it true that Sputnik requires some specific fonts, and renders no text if they are not present? Why is that?
Can I donwload these fonts from elsewhere, instead of using the script at home?

Apooler fixes memory management system in MOS1.4.x, so programs which
generate big number of memory allocations and releasing during its
operating (like Sputnik) gain big speed up. MOS1.5 doesn't need this
program because it has completly new and more efficient memory
management in comparison to that in MOS1.4.x, so marcik and other MOS
developers had no problems with Sputnik speed. During testing
prerelase of the newest Sputnik version, me and other Sputnik testers
with MOS1.4.x have found big slow down Sputnik and all MOS
    during browsing... apooler fixed it.
On the other hand, morgoth (autor of the apooler) is the member of
Morphos Team so I think using apooler is safe for Morphos (and user
    ;) )

Yes, just read the script, it's quite simple really. Now as for using Sputnik with no internet access, well... :-)

    @marcik

Good work. I can see a lot has gone into the second beta.
    Thanks!

Why no option to set identification string to "Sputnik (MorphOS)" ? :)

I would like to use TTF or bitmap fonts but I cannot select them or change coding to TIS-620....
    Maybe next beta ?

    thanks again

No speed increase here either. Most pages are rendered really nice with Sputnik, but they usually take ages to load (with lots of flickering while rendering them).
Also vertical scrolling is still very slow and jumpy.

Some nice improvements, but definately not "enjoyable" enough for daily browsing yet.

in my case Sputnik dramatically speed up after installing apooler -
just vertical scrolling... network speed is the same, and this won't
be improwed until marcik implement cache

have you installed apooler in user-startup? is apooler listed after
    STATUS command?
