i would like to open a bounty for a command to remove Mac startup sound on every Mac.

I guess no one is interested, as messing with OF in a non memory protected environment is quiet bad.

One glitch and the system (==hardware) is dead.

I guess you donĀ“t want that, too.

Better go for the linux live cd, there is the command you need once and done.

PS.: I unplugged the internal speaker of my PowerMac G4. Of course thats not a solution for other systems.

Maybe OT a bit, but I love Apple's official statement:

    Quote:

To disable the startup sound that plays when you turn on your mac, simply hold down the mute button while pressing the power button. Keep it held down for a while, until after the sound would have normally played.

Annoying, patronising and completely useless. Apple at its best.

Actually the real way to disable the sound is to write the variable SystemAudioVolume=%80 to NVRAM. This may actually survive poweroffs so you could in theory do it from a Linux bootable thumb drive. I can see all sorts of issues accessing NVRAM from Quark's memory map on MorphOS though...

(And no, OF is not affected at all.)

    > it's just a soft write new values of variable in OF isn't ?
    > There are this softs on Mac and Linux, why don't on MorphOS ?

Isn't geit's answer to your question in his comment you just replied to?
