Why is it that I have gotten the impression that MorphOS users are not very willing to help new users (registered user, paid for MOS2.1) to this community.

Is it maybe that I am spoiled from all the helpful members back at Amiga.org?

I have visited the #morphos irc channel at freenode.net twice and found that it is a very cold place to visit. Very disappointing to a new user that wants to contribute with cash and coding and whatever else I can do to this Amiga-like way forward that I have decided is the best choice for an Amiga future.

Tell me I am wrong and that this MorphOS community is just as friendly and helpful as the Amiga community I am used to. :-?

I'm not sure what you're expecting, there's plenty of helpful people, maybe keep time zones in mind when you're visiting the channel on irc. And as for any questions you have, please just ask. If you can't stick around waiting for someone to reply, post your questions here.

Well, we didn't had that many new members here recently. I guess ppl aren't used too much to newbies. And since MorphOS is so similar to Amiga I guess most ppl are tinking that everyone knows how to achieve things.
But in the end it I guess you'll always get answers to quetions, sometimes it takes a while and sometimes the sound seems to be a bit rude or rough - but that's attitude only.
And in comparision to a.org there are only a few ppl around here, thus the time until a helpful hand appears may take a while longer.
In the end I always had the impression that there are many friendly and helpful ppl around here.
And lurking around on #morphos is definitely helpful, but sometimes it takes time until you get responses.

There are many helpfull people. You asked an question and you got an answer, i don't know but maybe it's a specific sense of humour. I apologize if you took it too serious. Anyway you (and newbies) are really welcomed at #morphos :).

You have to come into the IRC in the right time, like now. i didnt even know that you've been in the channel and i'm always there except when i'm sleeping. :)

and if you're an efika user its even harder for us (peg users) to help you, cause i have no clue about the efika's hardware (in case its a hardware related problem).

And if you misunderstand something, its just the weird humor of the MorphOS Team members :-P

Mh, I wasn't there when it happened, but I read the log of that "event", and you surprisingly quit just after a few users answered your questions *and* also gave you an useful link to a well detailed FAQ.

So I assume you think that giving a link means a inpersonal "RTFM", but it was certainly not intended.

Thanks for all the replies and any links. I have tried to solve my problems myself (for hours at a time, and until 3am to 5am on more than one occasion), but without success.

I was pleased with myself when I was successful at installing MorphOS2.1 without any help onto a 4gb 2.5" hdd using a second 4gb 2.5" hdd connected to a USB to IDE/SATA adapter.

Since then I have not had such good luck. I decided to remove the 60gb hdd from my dead PowerBook, move any files from it that I wanted to keep, to my MacBook and then swap it into my EFIKA, but first I used it to transfer my newly arrived morphos.key file from my email on the MacBook & my PC to the EFIKA. I won't bore you with the steps required to reformat the drive to a FAT format so the EFIKA could see it, just that I finally figured out what needed to be done and transferred the keyfile to the EFIKA hdd successfully. I saved it to a safe location, several locations on multiple computers, then put it in my DEVS drawer and rebooted.

I could not find where or how to check to see if the keyfile was recognized and that my EFIKA's MorphOS was finished with being registered, but in a half hour the answer came when the message telling me that it was about to slow down came. I then rebooted, copied the keyfile to every DEVS drawer I could find in SYS:, MOSSYS: and MorphOS2.1:/SYS (my hdd partition) and rebooted again. Still no joy!

I don't know where else to put it or what to do next.

To complicate things further, I cannot format the 60gb hdd from the USB to IDE adapter because it is too slow and/or it shows a connection error, or it times out. I think the most progress I have seen on the progress bar in the format screen was 0.1%.

I wanted to format it and transfer all the files from the 4gb hdd then swap them out and boot from the 60gb hdd and keep the 4gb drive as a backup. Now I am thinking I will have to install the 60gb hdd and reinstall the MorphOS2.1 using the efikainstall.img and mos.iso files again.

I will try hanging out at the irc channel again, but I hate to admit that I have never used irc before and I was maybe mistaken, but it seemed that there were 36 people connected one time and 50 another, but there was no communicating I could see happening, so I assumed that some of them just left connections on all the time and the rest used private groups to communicate and their conversations would not show up to the rest (like me). I did get a couple of answers that were very brief and IMHO just seemed to want me to get help and answers from somewhere else, so I left. The second time was even worse.

But, I will lurk there more to hopefully find that I am wrong.

I will say one thing though, if all of you want this MorphOS community to grow, you had better expect more newbies to show up asking for help due to the low cost of the EFIKA and the recent improvements of MOS2.1.

Thanks again, sorry for the long post.
