Good God, I hate Microsoft products!
A little backstory here.
In 2001 or 2002 I was in a computer lab with my fiance on the University of Delaware's South Campus.
I was playing with a web browser and she was working on a term paper (in Word) that had to be submitted in about 1 1/2 hours.
Her system locked up and when it was restarted no temp file for her document could be found.

SO, here I sit on the DART Delaware Route 301 bus headed to a Human Resource Management class, and I can't find either of the two documents I was working on last night even though I saved them (but left up in Word 2016) when I went to bed.
Even if this thing goes to sleep it shouldn't mess with the files that are active, and I saved copies, so I should have them OR at least be able to locate a .tmp file.

BUT, hey, it Windows, so guess what? I am SOL.
Hours of work down the drain and nothing but a lame excuse for my instructor.
I'd like to strangle a Microsoft executive.

How many times do you need to revise a program to get important kinks out of it?
I think this stupid computer rebooted last night for an update (even though its supposed to ask first) AND that shouldn't trash saved content).

That about sums up the whole success of the PC and Mac platforms, kinda sucks, but that's what the market defaulted to.
Maybe ARM will help kill that monopoly off, but I doubt it if Microsoft and Apple shift to support that as a primary target.

Sometimes, and yes this is someone from the US saying this, market driven economics brings us sub-optimal solutions that just piss you off.

And BTW, why do current versions of Windows make it harder to find and open .tmp files than older revisions? Afraid we'll screw something up? Hey the casual buffoon is still more likely to destroy something in that lame flat database "registry" that they use to ensure copy protection.

Argh! My ex-wife was right Bill Gates WAS the Anti-Christ and no about of charity donations (made only to the "political correct" institutions) is going to make up for his total lack of charity during his entire working career OR the multi-millions he made off of stolen software.

Umm...sorry for a rant I MAY have made before, but that damned EULA makes recovering from any failure to perform by Microsoft impossible, and their glossy crap has bit me in the backside again.

Coming from a embedded background in the '80s using OS' that could be critical mission application certified, seeing Windows in medical and other "must perform correctly" applications scares the stuffing out of me.

you should of saved the file to a 3.5" floppy disk

Use Folio - by - André Siegel, and save as PDF - to a floppy, or a ZIP disk, or USB stick.

So, don't delay, just get those ZIP disks on e8ay and get some money for them, and Donate/Contribute to Folio those funds to André Siegel for him to improve, and enhance Folio even more.

Maybe even put some of the money, you make from selling those ZIP disks/drives, forward/start a Bounty for those Isochronous USB High-End Studio equipment hardware drivers that we so desperately need.

Two phrases that may help you in future: autosave, and cloud.

Ahh! Cloud .... sounds like FaceBook, Yahoo, etc .... a place that any good hacker could try to get access to your data - that's why I like Folio - local file/local storage - no hacker or dubious/scurrilous computer phreak getting access to data that doesn't belong to them !
