New morphos user

    Hey all. I'm a new user to the Amiga ecosystem and aspiring C/C++ programmer. I was intrigued with the superior memory management of MorphOS. After, seeing some videos on youtube. The ability to run on "cheaper" hardware. Getting a Powerbook to install MorphOS was a no brainier. So, right now I'm waiting on my hardware to arrive to try out my first Amiga-like os. I'm very impressed with MorphOS and look to become an immediate registered user. I have a 11,2 Powermac that I use with gentoo and became a instant fan of the PowerPC architect. I hope to be one of the new users to make a comprehensive review of 3.9.

    Yes, this didn't change with MorphOS 3.8 or 3.9, and it won't change until MorphOS is completely overhauled at the expense of backward compatibility.

    I'd say it's definitely a two-edged sword. See my earlier post about it for details.

    Basically, whenever your memory allocation on linux ("with defaults") succeeds, you have no way to know, if you actually have that much memory (which is, real memory + swap) actually available for use.

    OptiBay So, I got my powerbook and already working on adding a second hardrive to it. Keeping dedicated storage for my MorphOS/Gentoo installation.

    When I did this previously, I found that adding a second drive using the optical bay (which uses idemacio.device rather than ide.device) had some weird side effects, slowing down Ambient a lot using default settings.
    Reducing the task priority for idemacio.device fixed this, but there is (was) no default tool to do this at boot time.

    One of the MorphOS team (jaca iirc) made a tool to do this (settaskpriority), which i can upload to you if needed.

    Not sure if this is still an issue, as I haven't used the drivebay in a while. If it is, you'll know immediately after installing the drive ;)
