    Yes, the update will work with MorphOS 2 keyfiles.

    The original term is "two more weeks" IIRC.

    Anyway, it seems 3.0 is probably not far off now, Piru said something about finalizing and there are also some other indicators (Andreas provids a few links regarding that), that 3.0 wil be out rather soon. Whether it will be tomorrow or in 2-3 months is a detail, but I suspect that's the actual timeframe we should expect something (I'd be surprised if August 1st wil still be 3.0 less). I can be wrong though and for sure I wouldn't bet my house on that time frame, but a tener I would easily risk.

    I have a PowerBook waiting for 3.0 It has OS X installed on it but seldom gets any use. The few times I have used it I've noticed how warm it gets. The cpu must be running quite hot - is the operating frequency (and hopefully heat output) controllable via software?
    PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)

    @ausPPC

    If you've only launched OSX on it a few times, I'd imagine it was indexing your hd for Spotlight. That would of course make it quite warm indeed.

    The CPU in PowerBooks has a DFS2 mode which lets it run at half the nominal clock. That in conjunction with NAP mode makes the PowerBook really cool when idle. MorphOS of course makes use of both those features. It also monitors the temperature and controls fan speed accordingly.

    That's nice to hear. Does "MorphOS" here mean "MorphOS 3.0" or "MorphOS 3.x"? :-) I ask because at Alchimie this feature was said to come only after MorphOS 3.0.

    @Andreas_Wolf

    NAP is used in MorphOS since the Mac mini release (to prevent it from burning through your desk and falling onto the floor ;) DFS2 support was added months ago, before Alchimie, so perhaps something got lost in translation there.

    @MaveRickPL

    We live in 240 x 210 cm rooms. 40W light bulb, a PowerBook, Technics amp, 24'' LCD, a Quad Core PC, VHF radio with a big stabilized PSU and you can't get below +26°C on a calm, sunny day.

    @osco

    Issues? I'd say most common failures related to heat would be the fans and old thermal grease between CPU/GPU/NB and the heatsink.

    > NAP is used in MorphOS since the Mac mini release

    I know. My question was only referring to DFS support. My bad, as I wasn't clear enough on this.

    Fab's slides contain the following statement in orange colour, i.e. planned for only after MorphOS 3.0:

    "Gestion contrôlée de l'énergie de différents composants en fonction des capteurs et préférences utilisateur (vitesse du processeur [...])"

    ...which Google translates into:

    "Controlled management of the energy of different components depending on the sensors and user preferences (processor speed [...])"

    So if DFS support had already been implemented in MorphOS before Alchimie, then what's the feature mentioned in the slide for MorphOS after 3.0 referring to? Or is it just that Fab missed to colour it green?

    I find mine runs cool under OSX, until a flash animation, or even more bizarrely an animated gif* causes 100% CPU load and it's beachball a-go-go. Given my experience with a Macmini and powermac, MorphOS will run much cooler..

    As the orginal release was expected the best part of 6 months ago, it's not unreasonable to assume they may have added more to 3.0 since then.

    Cool, I guess this would mean one step closer to the goal! :-)

    (BTW, would it be correct to say that MorphOS (or at least some tiny part thereof) was developed in Antarctica? :-P ;-))

    What my question was about is that said feature was already planned for only after 3.0 (according to Fab's slide) when it had already been implemented (according to jacadcaps). Preponing a feature from 3.1+ to 3.0 because 3.0 takes longer than expected wouldn't explain this.
    What's an explanation though is jacadcaps' statement that Fab's slide doesn't necessarily refer to DFS support per se but to a user prefs module for DFS, which of course could have been planned for a later release than DFS support.
