usually these things are hush, hush around here, but
enough hints have been dropped as you are aware. I
would be surprised at seeing official announcements
on it. Right now I'm concerned at keeping pace with os4
now that they have abiword, dropped the bomb shell
of the latest ver of owb capabilities.

As I have previously mestioned, we need these abilities
on morph too. I opened owb 68k ver1.1-1.3 but it
meditated on ambient. If a port to mac mini occurs,
then we need owb, or sputnik to do what owb does.
one more point.. eeer I wonder if there are enough
minis for enthused os4 users, morph users, and mac
    fanatics.

No need to worry about OS4 users, as there has been no word that AmigaOS4.x will ever be OFFICIALLY released for the MacMini and getting all the drivers needed without the Hyperion/AOS4 team's help will be next to impossible (in my life time anyway), and Mac users will most likely be getting rid of all their PPC Mac hardware very soon, if they have not already done so.

That leaves most of the PPC MacMini's for us lucky MorphOS users. ;-)

Who knows? :-) But maybe a "regular" 2.3 update will follow first, with yet some fixes and updates, such as Poseidon USB, video preview in Ambient, etc?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

I would still not envy Abiword in its current form. If I need a word processor running over an alien X11 screen/window (with all the limitations it implies), I might as well run linux or VNC instead, really.

If they had made a libX11 wrapper + rootless X11 environment, it would already be a bit more interesting.

    @TheMagicM

Consider the source of that info please. Future releases are generally announced when they are ready and available for download. I have no reason to believe that policy has changed.

Neko also seems to think this MZ.org/forum ______________________________________________
Regardless of the port status of the Mac Mini, is it really a good business model to tie an OS to hardware you can only buy on eBay or as refurbished from 3rd party suppliers?
    No.
By the time you get a port to the PowerMac G4 or an official Mac Mini version, Genesi will probably have an MPC8610 or MPC8640D system for you, and that is still a LONG way away compared to clicking Buy Now.

Let's leave the MorphOS developers alone and they can get on with what they want to get on with. In the event some hardware comes along that is ~$500 from Genesi, it will kick the backside of anything you'll find on eBay, and you won't regret waiting for it (and it will come with a warranty :)

    And this
Yes, by the time you get MorphOS for Mac Mini, you will have had a Mac Mini you bought from eBay for nearly 6 months - if it arrives according to "rumors". Remember the rumors about how MorphOS 1.5 was going to be released in 2007? :)

You're going to wait anyway. Why not wait for it to be released first? Then buy your Mac Mini. But let's not delay anything with new ports to everything you CAN find on eBay. In the event we get a new system out with specific intention to run MorphOS on it, it will probably be better anyway. By then, perhaps your Mac Mini will have died and you will have no recourse but to spend more money on a Genesi system. I would not complain :D

Save your money until you actually have MorphOS for Mac Mini in your hand. Then buy a Mac Mini if it's the best option for you. It's barely even worth discussion right now.

either way, I plan to be MorphOS 2.3 ready!

    key word there is "probably".

If the date of "March 2009" is actually correct, then Genesi is behind the curve on this one. That would give them 3 months to come up with something. Usually if something new is going to be released by Genesi you'd have alot of hype surrounding it.

Either way, I'm not waiting on Genesi for hardware. The MacMini is quite a good little piece of hardware.

"by then perhaps your Mac Mini will have died"... right. I have a 2nd hand Mini here and am going to buy another one just for MorphOS. $300 is a drop in the bucket for something that will make MorphOS fly.

The Mac Minis have the advantage that they are instantaneously useful. There's OS X preloaded and if you have some use for that OS then there is not much of a reason to wait any longer but buy a mini when you have a good opportunity. Plus, I don't share Neko's concerns. The Mini is a well proven piece of hw, but it is used, it is nothing to tinker around, to do soemthing new, to sustain a business on.
But when MorphOS comes out for the Mini, those who are in need of a working hardware will get the easy chance to get a hardware, and those who have a Mini already will have the chance to get to know about a 'real OS' ;-).
I doubt it will hurt Genesi's 8610 efforts - especially if Genesi is taking the netbook route.
    The Mini is no netbook.
It is an addition to sustain and strengthen the hardware basis for MorphOS and thus also to strengthen the position of the 8610 board by Genesi (if/when is supports MorphOS).

I think supporting used hardware with a new operating system such as MorphOS is just crazy. YES, I'm a Mac user and avid fan of the PowerPC architecture, but I certainly am not going to go out and buy a used Mac mini to run MorphOS on. I'd rather spend the cash on a PS3 or something to run MorphOS on than a used PowerPC-based Mac mini.
