I've read the news about a Freescale dual-core G4 with integrated memory controller for DDR2 and I soon thought it could be the best option for a new version of Pegasos. I bet frequency will be something like 1.5 Ghz or more, but a greater performance boost would be given by the memory controller and the faster DDR2!

I wonder if power consuption and temperature levels would make it more convenient than the G5...
What do you think? And does somebody know the release date of the product?

When you say Pegasos3 I assume you mean a successor to the Pegasos2, ie a "desktop computer" with AGP/PCI slots and a replaceable CPU and such? I really think that most people would expect such a computer to take the step into the G5 world.

However, Genesi seems to be scetching on *several* new HW designs, not only one. For some of these, this new CPU with its on board memory controller and Gigabit Ethernet and all, would be more suitable?

I would like to see the potential of the Pegasos II taken advantage of in full before i start to see/hear of future machines in the line myself.

I think teh e600 core would be a good oone (dual core G4 running at atelast 2 gigahertz)

I agree to Acill, the horsepower of the Peg2 is unused, why not use it first ?

Already, dnetc will take everything you can throw at it, and MAME (using certain roms) can also really hit the existing processor. So, I think more power is always useful.

The real question is..... When will we get a SETI@Home client?!

@Those who want G5 Pegasos

Remember that one of Pegasos weapon against competition is low power consuption. In a world in which a computer isn't considered such if it doesn't have a monster Pentium 4 or Athlon XXXX+, small companies in small countries are left out of the game just because they are in need of a medium machine that doesn't drain power like a vampire... Energy costs!
I would prefer a Dual Core G4 over a G5 if the first has lower consuption and is an accetable upgrade compared to a normal 1Ghz G4!
Apart from Genesi's targets and strategies, I would still prefer a silent computer over a messy and loudy one: that can only be done with low-power CPUs!
