So I decided to install MOS II, but the installer crashes every time when I move it on the screen or push some button. Actually if I close the intallation wizard and try to do anything else it will also crash :( Here is what happens:

The screen gets graphical corruption, freezes and then it goes all black (no signal).

    Here is my system spec:
Voodoo 3 2000 (I have tested PCI and AGP vesrion, we with both crashing and always with the same symptons)
1GB of memory (I have also tested with four different memory modules)
    Processor is 1Ghz G4

This system should be pretty much unused.

Could someone point me to an tutorial how to install Ubuntu on it as Wikipeg.org seems to be down, so that I could test that there is nothing wrong with the machine. BTW is there a memtest that I could run on Pegasos?

    Hi
Sorry to hear of your troubles. I'm sure there is a reasonable fix. Lets ask a couple of questions

    1. Does the 1.4 disk boot OK?

    2. What is your IDE config exactly?

    3. Can you try a Radeon card?

    For Ubuntu help go to

Yes I have installed MOS 1.4.5 earlier on this machine tought I remember getting random crashes, but nothing this severer and I always taught it was because of some bug and I never really did anything with it :(

I have my CD-ROM and HD on separate cables configured as masters.

I'll see if I can get a radeon card somewhere to test it out.

    Hi Painkiller,

I had the same problems with a voodoo 3500 agp tv, which worked fine under 1.45, but will not work with 2.0.

I bought a 9100 and all is fine. The 9100 or 8500 are by far the best choices for a Peg II.

A friend of mine found a few older ATI cards, a 9100 and a 9200, He said he is going to ebay them. Once He puts them up, I will post a message here. Seems the r200 cards (9100 and 8500) are hard to come by.

    Good luck!

    Matt

Try to boot MorphOS with the noaltivec boot argument. If this solves your problem, you will have to continue to do so until a bugfix is available for download on the MorphOS website.

THNX for the input guys. I'll be getting a Radeon 9200 soon. So hopefully it will solve my problems. I'll also try that boot argument you reconmended.

Oh BTW how do I use a boot argument?

Do I just type "boot cd boot.img <argument>"?

Thank you. I got it working with that argument. Hopefully I will be pleased with MOS II :)

I have the same problems with Voodoo 3 3000. It crashes with graphics artifacts. I found that if I disable the Opaque move and resize the crashes dissapear. Also, if I use the 3d argument on boot, it works really slow but with no crashes.

I am looking to buy a radeon 9200 or 9250, but the same system with the same voodoo gfx card but with 1.4.5 installed worked really fast and steady.

Also, I have a few more problems.
    1. At the blanker, the 3d blankers like feathers or boing, do not work. What should I install? I tried it with th 3d argument too.

    2. When I press to install the fonts of sputnik, it asks for xad installation, altho the library exists in MOSSYS:Libs/. What more does it want.

    3. The skin preview doesn't work.

    4. the usb port doesn't seem to work, although it did with 1.4.5. Not even the led of usb flash memory doesn't lights on.

    5. The pointer doesn't change if I choose an other one.

    6. The restart option doesn't work. It gives me only a blank screen. Although, the shutdown works great.

    7. How can I pass an argument to the boot procedure so that this would be used every time I boot?

On Voodoo3 3D only works in 16bit screen modes. Please check that.

    Hi Walkero,

I do miss my voodoo 3500, but the radeon is a nice card that I'm learning to love. It does seem faster for general use and slightly faster for dvd playback. Goes to show you how good the voodoo 3k series really was...

If you have a pegasos, I would recommend the 8500 or 9100 for the r200 chipset. I just switched to the 9100 and the blankers, lucy, and dvd playback work well.

I think the 92xx cards are slower and not as capable with MOS. Granted there are lots of manufacturers with lots of different specs, so do your homework before you buy...

    Good luck!

When I changed to 16bit screenmode the 1. and 3. fixed. The problem of the pointers remain, but these are not shown anymore in the prefs screen

No 2 solved by copying the C folder from the xadmaster from aminet to the SYS:C/, but I really believe that I shouldn't have to do it. It should be coming with the system.

Also, with the 16bit the crashes from opaque window resize and move were gone.

for the usb prob, I was told to delete the poseidon.prefs in ENVARC , but I have not tried it yet...

walkero, you should really get a Radeon 8500 from eBay , eshop.gr used to have some 9250's too

Exactly my problem. Jaime "Crumb" Cagigal suggested to mount devices manually, didn't try this yet.

I will try this too. But how can there be a bad "poseidon.prefs" file in a clean MorphOS 2.0 install? Who told you about this workaround?
