Have you registered Poseidon? This is pretty much a requirement to use drivers other than uhciusb.device (which is licensed).

    @ golem:

    thanks for your interesting information.

@ Platon: can you confirm what sayed Golem, and if the killed peripheral after some secondes of copy is an non registered version limitation?
    thank you guys.

    @serge

That was the behaviour I experienced here before registering Poseidon.

Serge not sure if I can help, but I did a lot of fooling and got my settings perfect enough to keep my card stable under loads. I am working a 24 hour shift tonight so I cant get to my Pegasos but I will set up a page and host my settings file so everyone can grab it and give it a try. So far everyone thats used it has had good results as well.

    Thanks for your efforts.

But wouldnt it be easier if you would either simply attach your prefs file to a posting here?

Or, what I personally would prefer, why not making some screen shots of your settings window and post it here? In that case everyone could prefer from your efforts in a very easy way.

Yes, that is the case. If no V3.x keyfile is used on non-licenced hardware (and currently only the onboard driver is licenced), the transfers will timeout after some time, usually showing "dead devices" after that time.

    @ platon42:
How much time ? Few seconds, some minutes or hours?
here, the device is dead after reading less than 1 MO.
Is this normal for a non licensed poseidon ?

I'm registering now my poseidon. I'll go to bank tomorow to send money.

Depends on how much data you transfer and how many transfers you do in total. After a few megabytes it time-outs. Moving the mouse in circles for a minute will timeout aswell.

Chris is there an easy way for us USA types to send you a payment for the MOS registration? Whats the price to register it? Also once I tweeked my settings I never get any hardware time out that I can see while using a 2.0 device. Maybe I am just lucky?

All the instructions for registering Poseidon are reported here: http://www.platon42.de/poseidonreg.html
You can fill the form also from the prefs in MorphOS.

I didn't think there were still this many people unregistered: Chris work is great, and so is his support. When 3.3 got released, without any limit for the Pegasos onboard chipset and even no annoying requester, I got even more impressed. And also the decision to let the MorphOS user decide how much Poseidon is worth to him, is something I really think should be rewarded. I decided to pay the upgrade fee (15 Euro) IIRC, because Posedon 2.x was somewhat registered for us. But I might chip in some additional money if I'll get upgrades in the future.
In the end I'd suggest everybody to register to Poseidon ASAP, regardless of the fact you're going to use a PCI USB2 controller or not. It's worth it, Chris deserves it, and shame on those who won't do it.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

I'm having trouble with my usb hard drive with usb2.

It give read/write (at least I think it is mentions blocks etc., I can't read the language to confirm.)

As soon as I plug it in it generates errors and kills massstorage.device.

I have tried 2 cards, an nec and via. The Nec doesn't work and the via works with mice and thumb drives.

Interestingly if I try to go to system setting the system locks up.

Lastly the mb usb won't work when the via is plugged in.

    Any ideas?

    So, so, so,

I registred to poseidon. Thanks Platon.

I injected the key on poseidon, and since that, all works good.
I copied from an USB hard drive 13.6 GO to my IDE HD on 33 minutes.

Will registration solve the problems I've encountered?

    Thanks SoundSquare for the information.

I doubt if trying yet another card will solve the problem.

I wonder if it's a bug in a device driver or perhaps an issue with poseidon?

    Take care,

    Matt

haha no problem, i doubt i'm being of any help here unfortunately. I tweaked Poseidon so much lately to try to get something working that i may have screwed it up. And i haven't used my Peg much for the last 2 weeks, but if i get it to work i'll tell you !

For non-hispeed devices you need OHCI driver too (except with VIA which is UHCI)...

    Thanks CISC for the info.

SoundSquare - Good luck trying, I tried all the combinations in the massstorage class with no luck. Strange the usb drive works fine in a 1.1 port but generates read/writes in the 2.0. Every other device works flawless with the 2.0.

    Take care,

    Matt
