Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. I can't find a general "help" forum.

This is my first post here. I have just got a PegII new from Amigakit, 512MB PC2100 DDR and Radeon 8500 graphics card. I'm trying to get it to boot from the MorphOS 1.4.5 CD and not having much luck. When I type in "boot /pci/ide/cdrom boot.img" it hangs on a message saying "Quark/OpenFirmware".

If I type "ls /pci/ide/cdrom" then it lists the contents of the CD. I have tried another CD-ROM and another IDE cable, and a PCI Voodoo 3000 instead of the AGP Radeon 8500. I don't know what else I can do :-(

Any help would be much appreciated!

The first thing you should do is get your arse at:

    irc.freenode.net #morphos
    www.mikseri.net/hooligan <- Free music

In similar cases our Doctor advises to visit the following web sites:

    Quickstart guide
    http://www.morphos-news.de/beta2help/

    MorphOS FAQ
    http://www.geocities.com/c64days/morphosfaq.html

    MorphOS compatibility software
    http://pegasos.jinak.cz/software_en.html

I like adding the "Pegasos book's website"
    http://thepegasosbook.wikipeg.org/

    Bye,

It could be (once something similar happened to me), you are trying to load the wrong kernel. Perhaps you are trying to load the pegasos 1 kernel. Once, by mistake, I loaded a pegasos2 kernel in my peg1, and that was what I got. It started booting, but soon got freezed.

i don't think you booted the wrong kernel as the pegasos1 kernel is labeled "bootpeg1.img".
But if you have some PCI cards (ethernet, usb) remove them or swap their slots and start again.
check you got 80 pins IDE cables

Thanks for the hints everyone. Turns out it was the CD-ROM that was causing the problem. I changed it for a different make instead of the cheapo IBM one, and it now boots MOS from the CD :-)

I have a few questions now I have MOS installed. Is this the right forum to ask?

Have a look at the forum overview, software related issues go here, for hardware go here.
