    Hi everyone!

i wanted to ask if its somehow possible to use a XBox 360 Controller with MorphOS.
I tried it but the controller LEDs just keep blinking and the device goes off with the message that poseidon could bind the necessary class. force binding doesnt make it better though.
So what can i do? is there a way to use that controller with morphos?

I tried to attach it on the onboard USB and my NEC 2.0 card. all the same.

it wont work. i guess is due to some m$ code inside the device . its more than just a gamepad, you need specific driver for it i suppose.
i would be really happy if i could use my x360 controller with morphos mame and with the upcoming fortis but very unlikely that is going to happen ever...
can anyone recommend an xbox style gamepad (not ps style) for morphos?:)

Just tried mine here, it doesn't work indeed. Since this is a vendor specific device (ignoring standards is pretty normal for m$ ;), the only option would be to write a driver for it. Maybe I could look into this at some point since there seem to be open source drivers available. Perhaps a bounty if there is enough interrest ?

I'd love to use an Xbox360 controller with mame etc! If there is a bounty I'd donate for sure :)

...but there are lots of game controllers that will work out of the box, needing no additional effort. Do we have enough games to take advantage of it?
Well, if development is very easy, then go for it.

    @Ruud

I'll see if it's even worth a bounty. If the documentation I stumbled upon is right, this should generally be 2-4 hours of work to get it to work to some degree. The only problem is that it'll have to be part of one of the core classes of Poseidon, so the updated will only happen when we release MorphOS updates.

Very cool, thanks a lot! :) So it takes you only 4 hours but it will be 4 years before next morph release? :P

That's what I have. This is a vendor specific device that actually generates normal hid reports, just lacks the usual headers. It shouldn't be a big problem to add support for the wired and wireless Xbox 360 controllers. I'll keep everyone posted.

After some hid hacking I'm not sure whether I'll try making this work in hid, or make a separate, external class. Having it in an external class would make it possible to have a standalone release.

    Czesc!
Here is a similar problem: force feedback of the DragonRise is not supported,
so an extra class or hid extension?

Good idea for standalone release... you can sell the driver instead of a bounty?? :pint:

Just wondering if you ever got time to make any progress with this?
I'm sure you've had a million and one more important things to do :)

I'm still willing to make some kind of donation to support the effort.

Yes, I generally how to write a minimal drive now. There might be a problem with led initialization on the controller though since M$ seems to have used hacks that can't work with Poseidon (but we'll see).

True. I honestly can't tell when I'll have the time to look into this again.

to everyone who wants to use an x360 controller with morphos:
i've found an alternative solution! this:

    http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=3132&pid=22714&paus=1&act_lang=en&PHPSESSID=8202e5a314eefe016de7876db44afd79

works perfectly with morphos, i havent need to configure anything just plugged in and go. already played a few games in mame with it:)

duh its not as good as the original but 95% the same. and a lot cheaper as well. highly recommended to anyone who needs a good, usable, comfortable, not cripled ps-style gamepad.

Has anyone tried using the wireless reciver. It works on linux

Or is that what we are talking about, assumed people were talking about wired controllers.

From what I have read might have more luck with wireless reciver, espcially given there sare linux drivers

The XBox360 wireless controller does not work on MorphOS because we don't have a driver for it. I really need to allocate some time for this project...

I know some joypads work without problems with MOS, but XBox360 Joypad is verygood quality and what is very important its available to buy in the whole world in every electronic store! This is importat. Some JoyPad are in Europe but in N/S America same model # are not available.

"Xbox360 controller is easily the best gamepad on the market"

true. thats why i recommended the xbox360 sytle gamepad from speedlink as its 95% identical to the original (+ already works with morphos:). and its wired, i dont like wireless, not just it eats batteries (what a pita when the batteries die during a doa4 match:) but you need a special reciever to use it with computers, and that reciever costs more than the speedlink gamepad...
