    Hiall!

Recently, the main HD in my Peg I appears to have become majorly confused, and I'm trying to reset it. The drive is a Maxtor 93625U8 (36.5GB) and has the following info printed on the drives label:

    Cylinders 65114
    Heads 16
    Sectors 63

However, SCSIConfig Read Geometry retrieves the following:

    Cylinders: 16383
    Heads: 16
    Sectors: 63

Which adds up to about 8.6GB. Total sectors = 17837931

If I try to set params to those on the drive in the Partition window, I get an error claiming I can't configure the drive for more than Total sectors value. I also tried just typing the actual MBytes size, but it changes back to 8.6GB, or, sometimes (not sure how I did this), it changes to an incredibly large value, larger than my entire house.

    1. Can I use SCSIConfig to set this drive up to use all 36.5GB under Morphos?

    2. If not, is there another tool which I could use?

3 Are there any SFS recovery tools I could use to try save anything on the drive? I had a bunch of stuff already installed, and was also using the Peg as the "server" for the Amiga side of my network.

    TIA!

    Pete

There is SFSSalv from Joerg Strohmayer. Can't remember link and it is not capable to save files always but worth of try...

    Thanks!

I suspect the drive may be really wanked as it just goes click click click every once in a while and never mounts, etc., but I'll give it a shot...

Any thoughts on the problem of only recognizing 8.6 of 36.5GB?

You should try that HD on another machine. Sounds like it is completely broken.

Here SCSIConfig has no Read Geometry option, but if you're refering to Reload Geometry that would explain the numbers above, try using Optimal Geometry.

It's dying. I had 2 Maxtor HDs that repeatedly clicked. I finished both thru an eMule overuse.
