How's that even possible? I read that this mysterious CorePlayer doesn't even use the GPU but only CPU + AltiVec:

I don't know how they do it, but it's impressive. No wonder why it's commercial. :)

    That's very impressive for a G4!

The bit rate is nowhere near BluRay of course but it's still impressive.

Hi, I would like to use an internal BlueRay burner with the Pegasos2 but they are SATA only, seems no IDE anymore. Did anyone try such already? Any idea what would be the best way, buy a compatible SATA PCI Card which works with MorphOS? Or any other idea/solution?
    Thanks

You can't use bluraydiscs if I understand it well. But I do wonder: does it read DVD and CD's under MorphOS a bluray drive ?

You can buy an USB Bluray drive ? Or maybe an IDE to SATA convertor ... and indeed SATA pcicard would be the best solution but I don't know how compatible this all will be.

There's still at least one PATA model available in Germany:

You still won't be able to read BD data discs under MorphOS - there's no filesystem for these.

Yea, right, didn't think about the fs, no fs for MorphOS to read BD :-(

Not only is there no filesystem for Blue-Ray disks, the video disks themselves require Java to run the menus. :-x

Since my Sony Blue-Ray player only set me back $75, I don't see the need to invest even more money just to run these disks under MortphOS.
Besides, I use the BlueRay player mainly to stream online video content.
Anyone know how to get YouTube to display in fullscreen on a BlueRay player?

    There're also different opinions:

What would be very beneficial for morphOS would be to have a proper support for video decode acceleration.
I have a old PC here doing 1080P using less then 3% of the CPU, the NVidia card does all the work.
I am curious to know if we have such a possible future option with ATI cards.

I'm wondering about the exact same thing. I'm considering picking up a Samsung ODD external USB blu ray player, and want to use it on my mac, pc and as CD/DVD drive on the efika.

Can a USB Blu Ray player work as a CD/DVD drive with MorphOS?

Just wondered if this topic (UDF) had become more important more recently to the Dev. Team? :-?

I'd be happy to put some money into a "Bounty" for other users also to contribute to gain this advantage for MorphOS to realise UDF support. If we could at least get that support and be able to read and write that UDF standard it would be a major hurdle overcome. It would even be nice to have Dual-Layer support for DVD+R-DL media, which would also allow us to utilise those discs. 8-D

If I'm not mistaken ... even Mac Tiger (10.4.11) could read UDF DVD discs and that's not been supported for such a looong time already!!! :-o

Indeed, libudfread is not rocket science.
    However Wikipedia says:
"For example, a UDF 2.01 volume that does not use Stream Files (introduced in UDF 2.00) but uses VAT (UDF 1.50) created by a UDF 2.60-capable implementation may have the revision declared as 0x0201, the minimum read revision set to 0x0150, the minimum write to 0x0150, and the maximum write to 0x0260."

UDF is even less relevant now than it was then.

@ jacadcaps . . . and yet . . . the Windows, Linux and Macintosh Operating Systems seem to be still happily using UDF in order to format DVD discs to burn data to, and we still can't ! :-(

That's because . . . I just had to use the Mac side of the iMac hardware, running Mac OSX Tiger, to be able to view and transfer the data from a set of DVDs in UDF format to storage media, that I've now had to burn again with Jalapeno - so that I can read them with my DVD-RW drive using MorphOS. :-(

It's not impossible to do that, but it's a real pain to not be able to use your preferred OS to carry out such either viewing or saving natively to the OS you're using, and more importantly . . . prefer to use. 8-)

Blu-ray support will be a new excellent feature for MorphOS i think too.

Via external Blu-Ray writer USB Maybe?

Watch films, extract audio and video, mix and burn new video projects.

Realize DVD presentation with Hollywood Designer with some videos and burn...

Save big size of data, pictures, archives, etc.

I think it's not important enough. Most people use streams for many years, so few people buy discs.
Blu ray playxer and disc sales go down from year to year.

better SATA (internal) because it is faster
    Quote:

Our CPUs are too weak. Maybe G5 is acceptable but on anything else it is not fun. They are too slow for that.
    Quote:

that could only be watched useful on G5 or non Amiga platforms because they have better CPUs. Maybe GPU can help to speed it up. I don't know if bigfoots driver can do that. But I would say that the priority for this should be selected very low.
    Quote:

We don't have any good filesystem for that. SFS cannot store files biggfer than almost 4GB (maybe that's enough for your case but not for bigger video files for example). IceFS can store bigger files but it has so many bugs that you risk to loose your files (drive becomes very slow, and creates a lot of read and write errors). IceFS bugs have not been fixed for many years, so I think it is dead. Maybe best for this is to store on NTFS or extfs. Or ExFAT. They are not Amiga filesystems but can hold bigger files.

Also our filesystems have limits with international files. For example you cannot store files with international names correctly (files with Greek names, Arabic names, Chinese names ...) because we don't have enough Unicode support. And theyy can have only 107 characters in their filename. But media files, archives, versions etc. often have longer filenames in my environment and when I work with them on the Amiga the names are cut to 107 charactrers and when I bring them back to the server and use them with Linux or Windows then the filenames are more broken because Amiga limited it. So in the end I better not even start to use them on the Amiga which is a pity because if I could then this would be a big advantage for me.
