I don't think so. Quite the contrary, many of us are sad about that situation, because we already know how one feels like in such situation. Just don't allows two or three too vocal individuals to make you think that way about this... Just take a look at AW.org.

I don't get it why you guys are selling your computers. Why did you buy your computers in the first place if you just where waiting for something new and was not happy about what existed.

If you are selling them because of a protest against Genesi, do you really think it would make any difference?

The Pegasos II is still a kickass machine.

I've bought Pegasos, because it looks, like Amiga-Like system got the
chance to have the future. Now, looks like MOS die... Without
amiga-like system Pegasos is worthless for me :(

With or without Genesi I expect MOS will continue, it wont have the resources as before but it started like that so I don't see this as a reason for it to die.

This could (in theory) actually do MOS some good in the long term since it's no longer tied specifically to Genesi products and if the developers ever want to earn money off it again they're going to have to learn how to commercialise it, it's not a particularly dificult thing to do but notoriously difficult for technical people.

In the immediate future the developers need to clarify the situation, will it be developed further, what will happen now etc.

alright u guys are right, once everyone will calm down (including myself, but i bought my peg 2 weeks ago... kinda disappointing innit) then we'll have wiser discussions about the MOS situation. I don't think it would end just like that either.
Sorry 'bout my previous post... bad mood, pre-mentrual stuff... :-o

Well, even if all the development stopped (which I don't believe), MorphOS 1.4 wouldn't stop being "amiga-like system".

At least I bought Pegasos becouse it already had a working amiga-like operating system. (of course any further development was / is "added bonus")

I agree with you all that we should give it some time. I kind of wish certain people would hurry up and speak about the future of MOS, but we just had a major train wreck and it takes time to figure out to fix the train and put it back on the tracks.

The people who like the system, the hardware, the software, and what it all stands for should stay steady, even if it takes a few weeks.

MOS isn't any more dead than Classic AOS. :) You already have an Amiga like system with MOS. The Pegasos is a good board and worth keeping. I think it'll all be better later.

I guess I'm used to surprises in this community. I bought my A3000 just a week before Commodore went under in 1994. Bought my Peggy just as they decided that the Articia S was trash. :) So now this. I can cope. It'll be ok. :)

Any dealings I've had with BBRV, Genesi, and PegasosUK have been very thorough and very positive. I'm just gonna hang in here and wait for the outcome. In the meantime...I'm learning about PPC linux distros and PegXMac. :) Plenty to do with this Peggy of mine. Right now I'm printing the Gentoo guide, on my mac of course. :-o

I understand that some of the core MOS technologies now belong to genesi and some belong to the MOS developers.

The best compromise would be to get a service
pack (as in windows) which will upgrade everyone to 1.5 and beyond.

    Everyone should already have 1.4.2
and a service pack to upgrade to 1.5 would be just to add / upgrade existing features.

In this way maybe copyright problems could be done away with. Anyone with MOS 1.4.2
could then upgrade to latest version / latest features.

This of course would mean that any re-install
in the future would need the base 1.4.2 system plus service pack loaded on top.

As in windows all service pack releases should integrate the features of previous service packs and fixes as well as any further updates.

Maybe we should all be asking to buy a service pack from MOS developers rather than a full release.

Yeah I think I will wait it out too. Like a lot of others I went from an Amiga to Pegasos after owning my A3000 sonce it first came out, selling it to get the Pegasos. If I stuck with the A3000 for as long as I did with no real AmigaOS updates I can do the same with MorphOS.

I think a lot of people held onto the classic for so long was because there was always a next-gen system just about to come out.. we've got our next-gen systems now, but now we're hanging out for software.. f the platform dies again, will the software come? its sortof the end of the line again..

anyway I'm sure MOS will survive this. they've come such a long way, I dont think it can die now.. its in too advanced a state to let it just perish.

    With me too.

I've always found bbrv to be very pleasant and courteous during my dealings with them.

I generally pay zero attention to what others tell me about a person.

If anything, if someone tells me nothing but bad things about a 3rd party, i tend to think badly of that person.

    @timofonic

I have kept silent about this matter since it exploded, but feel i must speak now.

bbrv have made business mistakes, that's obvious. It doesn't make them evil people.

The Pegasos and MorphOS stopped a lot of developers leaving this tiny "market" we have.

You don't see Eyetech giving away FREE motherboards to developers do you?
In my own case, I received a pre-April Pegasos 1 as part of the phreeboard scheme 18 months ago. Shortly after I was struck by a very serious illness that took all my time and energy away from me. I thought I was better and emailed bbrv to let them know why I hadn't done any development and was replied to with a very nice message wishing me well with my illness. Shortly after I discovered I wasn't better afterall and was even more ill than the time before. Touchwood I am 100% with medication, and will now finally be in a position to do some development work with my FREE Pegasos.

I digress...... Yes, the situation with Zapek is a major setback, but hopefully it will be resolved soon. Name calling and derogatory comments about individuals concerned in this matter does not help anyone.

Maybe lawyers are the only way this can be sorted out. In the UK we have "Industrial Tribunals" that resolve disputes between employers and employees, or contract disputes between a business and contractor where both parties have a vested interest in said business. To me, as an outsider looking in, it seems this may be the only way to settle the dispute with Zapek, but that is all I am, an outsider looking in with no inside information whatsover. Just like 99% of people that visit here.

Personally I think the next version of MorphOS should be paid for by end users, but that still doesn't settle the dispute between Genesi and Zapek.

I hope they aren't laughing too hard, because they're really just as vulnerable as we are. MorphOS happened to hit a rough spot first, but I think the "red camp" has fundamental weaknesses and is very likely to come to an impasse before long. At least the Pegasos has more options to keep it alive, and Genesi certainly has a great headstart on doing the things necessary for those sales.

I hope something gets worked out so MOS can continue on its old path. Hopefully, things will even be better. I wonder how many users have really been happy about the way MorphOS is developed now. Maybe that can't change, because of the people doing it. Or maybe it can change in the future. I'm not criticizing, but just thinking about how things could be better.

Anyway, if the Pegasos hardware can get a foothold for consistent sales in the Linux market, that gives some breathing room for MorphOS and other OSs. (This is where "the red side" can stop laughing. Has there been any sign of a viable market for those boards outside of the very limited (and insufficient for viability) sales to already-convinced Amiga fanboys (and girl))?

I hope people talking about deadlines here aren't being too quick to jump ship. It may take time to work something out. In the meantime, what's the rush?

What is wrong with MorphOS as it is? Don't you like it? If you don't like it, why use it? Why would you want ot make it into something other than it already is? Are you confusing development of Applications, Utilities, Drivers etc with the actual Operating System?

some of us use it knowing that some important features/addons were about to be added. This is not about to make it into something different but just to make it better in order to fulfill most of users' needs.
We are talking about embedded Morphos features here, not external apps or utilities.
It's great if you feel satisfied by the way Morphos is today. Maybe u bought the licences for a TCP/IP stack, browser etc but we should be able to get it inside of Morphos, without any external application.
It is all about an unfinished OS

    @zhulien

MorphOS needs some things before I consider it complete as an OS. It needs first of all an integrated TCP/IP stack. And then it needs updated printer drivers. I would go so far as to say it needs CD-burning capability integrated. And it needs, ermmm, an improved Ambient with perfected sort and snapshot functions, etc.

Some people might say "oh, that stuff is not part of the OS" but in my opinion it should be.

Hopefully someone somewhere is working to make MOS 1.5 a reality for us hundreds of loyal MorphOS users.

I have quite a few computers with operating systems without network stacks. Actually they don't have networking. It doesn't make them as good as they are in my view, it limits their uses, but if they already do what you want that's good. Things such as TCP/IP stack don't have to be part of the OS, look at Windows to see why it is a bad idea, it means no competition and you have to live with the crappy stack provided.

I see it as MorphOS provides an almost sound base on which developers can build what they want on, ie: TCP/IP stack, Drivers, Applications, Utilities etc... Fine, add a TCP/IP stack, but make it optional so when AddMyNewNetworkStackCreatedInYear2020 comes along we can implement that if we feel like it and are capable. TCP/IP isn't the *only* currently used network stack either. As far as I see, adding a TCP/IP stack is a bonus, not an OS feature.

Zhulien we dont's stay that mos1.4 is bad but think:

We are in 2005 no ? Hm did you think that there is another new Os which have no tcp/ip stack ?
Really an upadate is necessary to develop native morphos applications using differents parts of the pegasos 2 hardware.
Think that genesi and the old thendic team have say that the pegasos and morphos are readyt for Ati Radeons cards.... and yet only Mos1.5 can support them ! Do you want an Os that use voodoos for 3d all your life ?

We must have Mos1.5 !!! It's not an upadte it's a need for the morphos applications developpers !
