    @rzookol
I wanted to try this again on my old Mustek 1200 UB Plus. I went to s created gt68xx and placed the gt68.library alone with the firmware sbfw.usb. It is not binded to Poseidon (none)
I directed device to S:gt68xx/gt68xx.device and Scanner Driver to DEVS:/MorphOS/Devs/ahi.device. Unit was left blank
Before I scan the info displays not connected, when I scan, I get out of memory and info says scanner connected. If I press scan again, the program meditates. Am I missing something?

    ok, download
    http://brain.umcs.lublin.pl/~rzookol/download/gt68xx.device

it has fixed opening communication device (but any string have be in Device) so in
    Device: put foobar.device or os4.device :)

    download:

    http://brain.umcs.lublin.pl/~rzookol/download/gt68xx.conf

    put in s:
and remove all lines except these (if You have Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus):

    ##############################################################################
    # Autodetect Mustek BearPaw 1200 CU, 2400 CU, Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus,
    # Artec Ultima 2000 (e+), and several other GT-6801-based scanners

    1) Don't have a foobar or os4.device... Where?

    2) I also wasn't sure if the statements before ########## should stay

    # gt68xx.conf: Configuration file for GT68XX based scanners (@PACKAGEVERSION@)
    # Read man sane-gt68xx for documentation

    # Put the firmware file into "@DATADIR@/sane/gt68xx/".

    # Manual configuration is necessary for some scanners. Please uncomment the
    # override line and optinally the vendor and product lines that apply to your
    # scanner. For some scanners it's also necessary to change the name of the
    # firmware file.

    # For testing scanners that are not yet supported by this backend add the
    # vendor and product ids in the usb line below. Also fill in the override
    # and firmware lines. For more details, see:

    3) The scanner is a 1200 UB Plus, not the scanexpress I don't think.

    4) Lastly gt68xx.conf goes into the folder or just s

    Thanks...getting there.

    Scandal + gt68xx drivers + USB works here ! :)
But I have some hits before and after scanning.
I had to modify gt68xx.conf file to overwrite Scanner name (Artec-Ultima-2000)
and overwrite firmware to use another firmware than ps1fw.usb.
Note that my scanner works with gt680xfw.usb and ePlus2k.usb firmware.
firmwares usualy can be found on vendor driver CDs...
In my case, I already had to do the same manipulations under linux with sane.
And I took installed firmware installed in wine...

    @xyphoid

You sent me log from normal version (without debug) :)
Could You send me log from debug version

btw. in 1.3 beta there is Connect button in Prefs->Info tab, it should be safer to use. I added autoconnect tooltype to make connection during SCANdal start also. Tiff saver works but requires MorphOS 2.x. PDF saver works but have to be fixed (it requires hpdf.library (from aminet/owb/netsurf))

    Beta 1.3:
    http://brain.umcs.lublin.pl/~rzookol/download/scandal.lha

    @SixK

Good to hear that it works, Cou You send me log from debug version of gt68xx.device ?

    as we see in log:
attach: found Mustek flatbed scanner BearPaw 1200 CU at poseidon:1496:16386
    ....
    gt68xx_device_activate: model "mustek-bearpaw-1200-cu"
    download_firmware: trying s:gt68xx/PS1fw.usb
    download_firmware_file: Couldn't open firmware file `s:gt68xx/PS1fw.usb': Undefined error: 0
    download_firmware: file `s:gt68xx/PS1fw.usb' not found
Couldn't open firmware file (`s:gt68xx/PS1fw.usb'): Undefined error: 0
    somewhere: download_firmware_file (dev): Error

the driver think that You have BearPaw 1200 CU
    so:
    1) download this firmware and test http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-backend/firmware/ps1fw.usb

    or
    2) refer to linux docs how to overwrite settings in gt68xx.conf :)

ok, it looks like that many scanner have the same product id and vendor id,
so use override "mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus" in conf file, it should help

    # Mustek BearPaw 1200 CU doesn't need any manual override

    Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus:
    override "mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus"
    -----------------------------------------------------------

out of mem pop up again ,I guess it's hanging due to one of these lines..
